Historic Reno Preservation Society

Historic Reno Preservation Society HRPS offers monthly history/preservation events throughout the year. With our HRPS’ Reno Heritage Fund, we offer mini-grants for community improvement projects.

HRPS is a historic preservation organization that offers events throughout the year, including historic walking tours during the summer and speaker programs in winter and spring. During summer months we offer historic walking tours and during the winter-spring we offer speaker programs. By Fall 2023 we hope to bring back our Reno Harvest of Homes tour which features homes in our historic neighborh

oods. We also offer an endowed scholarship program at UNR for students studying historic preservation, anthropology, archaeology, and land planning with an emphasis on historic preservation. In Fall 2022, we announced HRPS Watchlist to bring community attention to twelve historic properties that we are keeping a close eye on. Check out our website historicreno.org where you can fine our HRPS’ quarterly, FootPrints, and our monthly email newsletter.

Join us this Sunday, March 8 at Noon! NEW LOCATION: South Valleys Library, 15650-A Wedge Pkwy, Reno.

Most people don't know that women in Nevada got the right to vote several years before the 19th Amendment was passed! Dana Bennett will share the fascinating story of how that effort played out in Reno.

As the business, political and social heart of Nevada in the early 20th century, Reno was at the center of the debate about allowing women to vote in this state. Both the suffragists and the anti-suffragists launched their organizations in Reno and focused their efforts here. Dana will review both sides of that hotly contested question.
