The "Best" Little Yard in Reno Just Got Even Better 💙🌊☀️

This incredible transformation was made possible through the generosity of the Best Family and elevated to an entirely new level through the leadership of our Director of Operations, Mia Quinn, who secured a Home Depot Community Improvement Grant. Thanks to the support of all Northern Nevada Home Depot stores where 24 Home Depot volunteers joined us to help reimagine and recreate this special space for the children and families we serve led by Patrick Sullivan and Jeff Touchstone.

The project also benefited from the helping hands of Boys Team Charity, our dedicated respite staff, and community volunteers who worked throughout the day to bring this vision to life.

Together, the team created:

🏖 New sandboxes
🌊 Splash and water play areas
⛱ Shade structures
👨‍🌾Gardening and planter beds
🛟Mud kitchens
🍉 Picnic tables
🤽🏿‍♀️ Enhanced outdoor play and enrichment spaces

A tremendous amount of planning went into making this project a reality, and special recognition goes to our Senior Respite Lead and Program Coordinator, Haley Fuentes, whose preparation, organization, and attention to detail helped bring the vision to life.

As we prepare for the summer months, this enhanced outdoor environment will provide new opportunities for exploration, creativity, sensory engagement, and social connection. The project pairs perfectly with this month's curriculum theme, "Into the Blue," allowing children to engage in water-inspired activities, outdoor adventures, and hands-on learning experiences in a safe and enriching environment.

We are incredibly grateful to the Best Family, Home Depot, Boys Team Charity, and every volunteer who gave their time, talents, and energy to create something truly special for our families. This project is a wonderful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together to support children with disabilities and their caregivers.

Thank you for helping us create a space where children can learn, explore, play, and thrive all summer long.

✨ Thankful Thursday ✨

This week, we had the joy of celebrating the incredible moms in our community. Each mama received a rose and a handwritten note filled with love, encouragement, and reminders that moms truly make the world go round. Thank you to our donors and attendees at our last open house event for writing these notes to our mamas!💐💛

To all our mamas — you are our heroes every single day. Your strength, love, and dedication inspire us more than you know.

Remember to hug your mom today and remind her how much she means to you. 💙💚

✨ Thankful Thursday ✨

This month has been full of incredible outreach moments — from career fairs to community presentations — and we are so grateful for every opportunity to share the FRC mission with our community.

Thank you to our amazing community partners for welcoming us into your spaces and allowing us to connect with passionate individuals who want to make a difference.

To our volunteers who continue to show up with heart, and to all the new volunteers who joined us this month, we are so thankful for you. You are the difference. 💙💚

If you have an upcoming event, we’d love the invitation. And if you’d like to volunteer, sign up today and be part of something meaningful.

A huge thank you to the educators and schools who opened their doors and allowed us to share what FRC is all about — giving the gift of time and creating magical memories for the children we serve. ✨

💙 Volunteer of the Month 💙

This month we're proud to recognize Evan as our Volunteer of the Month!

From the moment he stepped foot in FRC, his passion to serve his community has been remarkable. Evan embodies compassion, dedication, and authentic joy.🙌

Evan shared that he was nervous about volunteering at FRC as he didn't have experience working with children, but he quickly learned how hilarious, kind, and energetic the kids are. Spending time with them is now the best part of his week. He's always looking forward to the next session as are the kids to see him!

Over time, Evan has learned how to interact with others and re-evaluate his future career. He expressed that FRC has given him the tools to become more personable and open, helping him hone his communication skills and be more intentional about how he expresses himself.

Evan is currently involved in his school's music program (marching band and drumline). When he's not at FRC, you'll catch him watching movies, walking his dogs, and spending time with friends. He intends to attend UNR in the fall and major in Human Development and Family Science with a minor in Music. He plans to continue volunteering at FRC after graduating high school, and we're so thrilled to have him on our team!

We appreciate you so much, Evan, for continuously making a difference in your community and bringing such light to every session. 💚

🌳Today was special.🤚

Thank you to everyone who showed up for our Open House and helped grow the Giving Hand Tree. The energy in the room was real.

Big thank you to Mayor Hillary Schieve and Councilmember Devon Reese from the City of Reno for proclaiming today Family Respite Care of Nevada Day, and for being joined by our good friend, Councilmember Abbott from the City of Sparks!

We built this tour with intention. From check-in to small groups, you experienced what it feels like to be a child walking into a new place not knowing anyone and finding comfort, connection, and support.

For 30 years, FRC has been a lifeline for families, providing 300,000+ hours of respite care with a 1:5 staff-to-child ratio. This month we’ll serve 220 children twice, and 750 this year through our programs and events.

The need is growing, and every dollar goes directly to care.

Grateful for this community and everyone showing up for Nevada families.
