The "Best" Little Yard in Reno Just Got Even Better 💙🌊☀️
This incredible transformation was made possible through the generosity of the Best Family and elevated to an entirely new level through the leadership of our Director of Operations, Mia Quinn, who secured a Home Depot Community Improvement Grant. Thanks to the support of all Northern Nevada Home Depot stores where 24 Home Depot volunteers joined us to help reimagine and recreate this special space for the children and families we serve led by Patrick Sullivan and Jeff Touchstone.
The project also benefited from the helping hands of Boys Team Charity, our dedicated respite staff, and community volunteers who worked throughout the day to bring this vision to life.
Together, the team created:
🏖 New sandboxes
🌊 Splash and water play areas
⛱ Shade structures
👨🌾Gardening and planter beds
🛟Mud kitchens
🍉 Picnic tables
🤽🏿♀️ Enhanced outdoor play and enrichment spaces
A tremendous amount of planning went into making this project a reality, and special recognition goes to our Senior Respite Lead and Program Coordinator, Haley Fuentes, whose preparation, organization, and attention to detail helped bring the vision to life.
As we prepare for the summer months, this enhanced outdoor environment will provide new opportunities for exploration, creativity, sensory engagement, and social connection. The project pairs perfectly with this month's curriculum theme, "Into the Blue," allowing children to engage in water-inspired activities, outdoor adventures, and hands-on learning experiences in a safe and enriching environment.
We are incredibly grateful to the Best Family, Home Depot, Boys Team Charity, and every volunteer who gave their time, talents, and energy to create something truly special for our families. This project is a wonderful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together to support children with disabilities and their caregivers.
Thank you for helping us create a space where children can learn, explore, play, and thrive all summer long.
