In our community for over 30 years. Washoe CASA is a program of the Second Judicial District Court. The program began in 1990 and is part of a national network of 979 state and local CASA programs in 49 states serving children who are part of the foster care system. What Do CASA Volunteers Do? Volunteers, appointed by judges, get to know the child by talking with everyone in that child

’s life: parents, relatives, foster parents, teachers, attorneys, social workers, counselors and others. They use the information they gather to inform judges about what the child needs and act on behalf and in the best interests of the child.

CASA volunteers advocate for children in foster care who have experienced abuse or neglect. These children are often navigating unfamiliar situations, including court hearings, case plans, and major decisions that affect their future.

CASA volunteers provide a consistent presence, help ensure each child's voice is heard, and advocate for their best interests throughout the process. By building trust and staying informed, CASA volunteers help children feel supported during a time of uncertainty. 💙
