Had an Army of three dogs and nine hardy folks today with five from Renown Trauma ICU to do some needed trail maintenance on the Peavine Trail Network. We did basic maintenance on the bottom section of Total Recall and the Keystone UNR DH Connector. We beat the heat by starting early and stopping early. The dogs mainly had fun dog wrestling and Jack T Trail dog did not do much supervising of the trail work today. Thanks much to Renown for supporting it's employee's doing community service work of maintaining our local trails. Happy Trails. 😃

The BLTS has been somewhat quiet online for the last couple weeks, but that doesn't mean we aren't actively working on projects both in the dirt and out of it!

New BLTS merch in a variety of designs, types, size, and colors are live on our website now, and the link is in our bio for ease of access. Check the site for all designs. Rumor is thay once they're off the site, they're gone forever. 😉

Through merch purchase, you will be helping support the BLTS fund maintenance of our machine, replace tools broken in the pursuit of trailbuilding or maintenance, and add to our funds for future projects in our sights. We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing these shirts on the trails and around town!

Had an Army of four on a cool windy morning to do the finish work on the upper section of the Bobsled Trail. The trail had been enhanced last week by Matt Thompson using a mini excavator to improve drainage, reshape some of the turns and re-routed the trail in a few locations. Today we did the hand finishing behind the machine work. The trail is now open and ready for use. Due the dry soil condition, the trail will be a little loose and dusty in places until its gets some moisture to set the tread. These enhancement should add to the bobsled feel of the trail and make it safer for all riders while keeping the original flavor of the trail. Enjoy, but be cautious when using the trail with the loose conditions.

⚒️⛏️ BLTS Trail Day - Saturday June27 ⛏️⚒️

Matt Thompson, our part-time employee, just finished his magic machine work on the upper section of the Bobsled Trail. Now the trail needs some hand finishing before reopen. This has been trail enhancement work of removing a few safety hazards and mostly improving the ride-ability of the trail while keeping the rowdy feel and flavor. There's been lots of comments about what we're doing. But wait till you actually ride it before commenting further. Unfortunately, due to the dry conditions, the soil is pretty dry and soft, so the trail will be loose until we get some moisture to help set the tread. If we can get a good size group Saturday the project will go quick. Hope you can make it.

When: Saturday, June 27
Time 0700 to 110008-12
Where: Horizon Hills Trailhead at the end of Kiowa Way

Please RSVP with Curtis at 775 232-8483. Please dress in long pants and long shirts, wear sturdy shoes, work gloves, bike helmet, eye protection. Bring water, snack and a smile.

Had an Army of six today, supervised by Jack T Trail Dog, doing the finish work on the short re-route of the Total Recall Trail just below the 1st Bench. Matt Thompson (partner with Steve Wentz and part-time BLTS employee) did the excellent excavator work last week, re-routing the trial out of the ravine on to the south facing slope. This reduced the average climbing grade to be consistent with the rest of the trail and makes for better year round riding with less mud and ravine crossings. Matt did an excellent job decommissioning the old trail in the very rocky terrain. We also did a much needed de-rocking of loose rocks and brushing of the Total Recall Trail from the Halo Trail intersection to the 1st Bench. The new trail section will be a little loose until we get some moisture in the soil along with bike wheel and foot traffic compaction, so ride carefully.

⚒️⛏️ BLTS Trail Day ⛏️⚒️

Saturday June 20, 7:00AM-11:00AM

We need help doing hand finish work on enhancements to the Total Recall Trail below the first bench. We put in a new longer section with turn on the southern exposure side of hill. We decommissioned the steep unsustainable section that crossed the ravine two times and was a mud pit in the winter. The new section will be a more consistent climbing grade like the rest of the trail. High for Saturday is only 84, so should be a nice work day. If you arrive late, just ride or drive up and meet us.

Where: Meet at Hoge Rd Trail Head
When: Saturday, June 20
Time: 7:00AM-11:00AM

Please RSVP with Curtis at 775 232-8483. Please dress in long pants and long shirts, wear sturdy shoes, work gloves, bike helmet, eye protection. Bring water, snack and a smile.

Today BLTS was helping with the Skiing is Believing Summer Camp. We had 23 youths, 4 Staff and 2 BLTS Crew Leaders doing trail maintenance at Sierra Vista Park. We worked on cleaning up the Pump Track and the High Fives trail. It was a pretty hot day and the production rate dwindled as the kids got hot. Still the kids did some great work. Fun to introduce youngsters into trail stewardship and community service.

🚨 Trail Closure Notice - Bobsled 🚨

Flags are in the dirt and the work will commence this week to provide much needed updates for improvements on sustainability, fun, and safety measures on Bobsled. Originally a user-created moto trail, Bobsled is one of the few trails on the northern part of the network that hasn't received enhancements or improvements. That changes this week with intent to create a consistent, enjoyable trail for all users, eventually connecting all the way down near Kiowa Pond and the Horizon Hills trailhead.

Please respect the closure and if you happen to see a machine being operated, stay far enough away to ensure you're safe. Make eye contact and remember to say thanks if they can hear you.

Happy Monday; stay cool out there!
