A New Look. The Same Heart. ❤️

Today, we’re proud to officially introduce Ronald McDonald House Northern Nevada.

Our name and look may be changing, but the heart of this House is not.

We’re still here for the same reason we have always been here: to care for families and keep them close when their children need medical care.

This new chapter reflects the community we serve today and the families we will continue to welcome in the years ahead.

And as we step into this next chapter, we’re carrying one simple message with us into the holiday season:

Give comfort. Share joy. Keep families close.

Here’s to everything that brought us here and everything still ahead.

Every story has a beginning. Ours began with Thomas McKennie, founding member and McDonald’s local owner-operator.

For the Reno House, that beginning was opening its doors in 1987 to families traveling to Reno for a child’s medical care.

Since then, more than 8,500 families have stayed at the House, each becoming part of the story in their own way.

The House and its programs have evolved over the years, but it all traces back to that first chapter.

This month, we’ll be sharing more glimpses of where we started, how we’ve grown, and the people who have shaped the Reno House along the way.

A lot can change over the years.

The Reno House has changed. Our community has grown. Thousands of individual moments have become part of this place.

But one thing has remained at the center of it all: being here for families when a child’s medical care takes them far from home.

This October, we’re looking back at the people, stories, and moments that have shaped the Reno House while also looking ahead to the families who will need us next.

We’re also beginning Comfort & Joy, our year-end giving campaign. In the months ahead, we’ll share how your support can bring comfort to families during difficult days and make room for moments of joy along the way.

The story is still being written. Together, we can carry that care forward.

A medical appointment may be the reason a family comes to Reno, but it is rarely the only thing they have to think about.

There is the drive to get there. Somewhere to stay. Meals between appointments. Time to rest. And the simple need to be near their child.

On Child Health Day, we’re recognizing all the pieces that surround a child’s care and the families managing them along the way.

Because caring for a child also means making space for the people who are there beside them.

NICU families can spend a lot of time between conversations.

There may be a stretch of quiet before the care team returns, a few minutes to step away, or a chance to call someone at home before heading back.

On NICU Awareness Day, we’re recognizing how much of the day can be shaped by waiting to hear what comes next.

A nearby place to step away and return matters in those in-between moments.

When Heart Care Brings Families Far From Home

Pediatric heart care can sometimes mean traveling beyond a family’s own community.

When specialized care is farther from home, the trip itself can become part of the family’s routine, especially when appointments or follow-up visits happen more than once.

For families making those trips, staying nearby can make the day more manageable by reducing the distance between where they rest and where their child receives care.

World Heart Day is a chance to consider the families whose routines stretch across miles in order to stay close to treatment.

Childhood cancer care is not limited to appointments.

There are early drives, meals squeezed into unfamiliar schedules, time away from home, and the practical work of keeping the rest of family life moving.

The time around treatment brings its own routines, decisions, and adjustments.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a reminder of everything families manage around treatment.

As we recognize this September, we're thinking of the NICU families supported by Ronald McDonald House programs around the world ❤️

Families like baby Grayson's.

Grayson was born early at 33 weeks and needed immediate surgery and specialized care. For nearly a month while Grayson was in the NICU, his parents, Paige and Jordan, stayed just steps away at Ronald McDonald House Louisville

"Being at Ronald McDonald House allowed us to be with Grayson in the NICU as much as possible," Paige says. "It was the biggest blessing to us on our journey."

Jeremy, Jessica, and their three children stayed at Ronald McDonald House Atlanta for over 60 nights while their son participated in a feeding therapy program nearby.

When families can stay close, they can focus on what matters most: caring for and supporting one another throughout their child’s medical journey.

When you're navigating your child's medical journey, everyday activities like getting a haircut can fall to the bottom of the priority list.

At Ronald McDonald House Tampa Bay, Inc., Olivia and her team helped families get back-to-school ready with fresh haircuts. We're grateful to community members like Olivia who give back in meaningful ways, helping families feel supported and experience moments of normalcy during challenging times.

While Harlow and Hadley were in the NICU, the Rardon family found comfort and support at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mid-Missouri. Now, the twins have made it a tradition to give back by volunteering at the House each year, even spending part of their birthday this year packing lunches and preparing a meal for families staying at the House.
