🎬 FILMMAKER TIP: Your movie is only as good as your audio.
One of the most common notes we hear from Carson City Shorts judges has nothing to do with acting, writing or cinematography: we need to hear your movie!

And remember, a microphone doesn’t always have to be dangling from a boom. Get creative! Lavs and other small mics can be hidden on your actors or around your set to get the mic closer to the action.
Good editing software can help too. DaVinci Resolve, for example, has tools that can reduce background noise and isolate dialogue with just a few clicks. But those tools work much better when you give them good audio to begin with.
