One of the things we appreciate most about the Northern Nevada business community is the willingness of people to show up, share ideas, make introductions, and help each other grow.

Strong business communities don’t happen by accident. They happen when entrepreneurs, business leaders, startups, creatives, and professionals stay engaged and continue building relationships.

That’s what organizations like NCET are all about, creating opportunities for connection, collaboration, and growth right here in our region.

Whether you’re building a company, launching something new, looking to expand your network, or just wanting to stay connected with what’s happening locally, getting involved matters.

Northern Nevada has a lot of momentum right now, and it’s exciting to see the innovation and business growth continuing across the region.

What’s one local business, entrepreneur, or organization you think deserves more attention or recognition right now?

Did you know? Livin’ on a Prayer almost didn’t make the album.

Before it became one of the most iconic rock songs of all time, it almost didn't make the cut.

Jon Bon Jovi felt it wasn’t quite there yet.

Not bad, just missing something.

But instead of shelving it, the team refined it, released it, and let the audience decide.

It became a #1 hit.

There’s a broader business lesson here:

We tend to judge our work by what’s missing.
Customers judge it by what they experience.

And in between those two perspectives, a lot of ideas get stuck.

The feature you haven’t added yet.
The message you’re still refining.
The detail that doesn’t feel complete.

In many cases, your customer doesn’t see it or doesn’t value it the same way you do.

But the bigger risk isn’t imperfection.

It’s inaction.

Because while something sits in “almost ready”:
Opportunities pass.
Feedback never comes.
Momentum stalls.

An imperfect launch creates data, direction, and progress.
Waiting creates… nothing.

So the question becomes:

What is “not launching yet” actually costing you?

“Planning without action is just procrastination in disguise.”

Ideas are powerful. Strategy matters. Vision is essential.
But none of it creates results until you move.

The businesses and leaders who win aren’t always the ones with the best plan—
they’re the ones who execute.

At NCET, we believe innovation happens when vision meets action.

What’s one thing you’ve been planning that it’s time to finally execute on?

Is Your Website Turning Visitors Into Leads… or Driving Them Away?

A professionally built website doesn’t always mean it’s built to perform.

Many businesses invest in design but overlook one critical factor:

How real people think, behave, and make decisions online.

If your site isn’t converting, consider this:

• Is it clear what you do within the first few seconds?
• Does your messaging connect with your audience’s needs?
• Are you guiding visitors toward a next step or leaving them guessing?
• Does your site build trust, or create friction?

High-performing websites aren’t just visually appealing, they’re intentionally designed around user behavior and conversion strategy.

For growing businesses, optimizing your website can be one of the most impactful (and overlooked) ways to increase leads without increasing ad spend.

Sometimes the problem isn’t traffic, it’s what happens after people arrive.

And if visitors aren’t finding what they need easily, they won’t wait—they will find someone who does.

Networking Tip of the Week

Following up after a networking event is critical.

How many times have you gone to an event, had a great conversation with someone, exchanged contact information… and then never spoke again?

It happens all the time. Sometimes you may not immediately need each other’s services, but strong professional relationships don’t happen by accident. They take intentional follow-up and consistent effort from both sides.

Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your next networking connection:

1. Don’t just give your contact information — get theirs.
Too many opportunities are missed because we rely on the other person to reach out first. Take the initiative and make sure you leave with a way to follow up.

2. Networking events create contacts, not relationships.
The real relationship building happens after the event. Schedule time to continue the conversation — whether it’s a coffee meeting, phone call, Zoom, lunch, or even a quick follow-up chat.

3. Be mindful of your time (and theirs).
Even when you’re having a great conversation, remember that networking events are about meeting multiple people. If the connection feels promising, schedule a follow-up and keep circulating.

4. Follow up within 24–48 hours.
A quick message reminding them where you met and referencing something you talked about helps keep the conversation warm and memorable.

5. Focus on relationships, not transactions.
The strongest networks are built through trust, consistency, and genuine interest in helping others succeed.

What networking tip has worked best for you?

Yesterday's NCET Industry Insider event at High Mark Distillery was an inspiring look behind the scenes of one of Reno’s fastest-growing local businesses! We had the privilege of being hosted by owner and speaker Felicia Keith-Jones, who shared her personal journey into the world of distilling and the passion that fueled the creation of High Mark Distillery.

Felicia walked us through the rich history of bourbon, explaining how tradition, science, and craftsmanship all come together in every bottle. Hearing how she transformed an idea into a thriving operation was both motivating and eye-opening. What stood out most was the incredible growth High Mark is experiencing — a testament to quality, perseverance, and community support.

It’s exciting to see such innovation and success happening right here in our own backyard in Reno, Nevada. Events like this highlight the strength of our local business ecosystem and the people who are shaping it. Thank you for another successful Industry Insider event and to Felicia for opening her doors, sharing her story, and giving us a deeper appreciation for the art of distilling.
