Pickers Pamela and Blaise multi-tasked today, picking 80 pounds of Mark M's Asian pears while being interviewed by KOLO channel 8 TV. The pear tree's fruit was very high off the ground and required a tall ladder, a tall picker, and a picking stick!

80 pounds of fruit was donated to Reno Sparks Indian Colony. Thanks to our wonderful growers and pickers for sharing this local backyard bounty!

MaryAnne and John had a great time picking 50 pounds of Kaeden C's pears. They were a little green, which is perfect for pears because they can ripen on the counter. After letting them ripen for a few days, the pickers brought the delicious pears to Catholic Charities/St Vincent Food Pantry for distribution. Many thanks to our growers and pickers for appreciating and sharing delicious, nutritious local fruit!

Heather C spent several productive hours picking 75 pounds of peaches from Janna E's abundant trees. Heather brought the huge fruit haul to the Reno Sparks Indian Colony on Friday evening. They were loaded straight into a vehicle heading to Hungry Valley for dispersal to the residents who have been displaced by the Stallion and Bug/Mt Fred fires. Both growers and pickers are grateful to get nutritious, delicious fruit distributed to those who can use it right away!

Pamela and Tony picked for Dianne G, who is a long time benefactor of the Reno Gleaning Project. Her two miraculous trees produced 120 pounds of lovely, GIANT, juicy Gravenstein apples in under an hour--and this is just the beginning! Three crates went directly to the Reno Sparks Indian Colony for their fire evacuee support efforts.

This is the first of many visits planned for this fine property. Thanks to Dianne for pruning the tree and lowering the tree canopy to help the tree produce lower fruit for hydration by the trunk, reduce breakage, and increase accessibility. We will save so much more fruit and the homeowner will have way less mess because of this thoughtful care. Gratitude!

Lynn and Sabrina got an early start to beat the heat and picked 30 pounds of Thompson seedless grapes for Sparks Food Pantry. They plan to return next week for another round from this generous arbor. Thanks to grower Terry R for donating luscious local fruit and to our wonderful, energetic pickers!
