🎣💚 Thank You, Community — Carpe Diem 2025 Was a Beautiful Success! 💚🎣

From all of us at the Rosewood Nature Study Area: thank you to everyone who came out and made this year’s Carpe Diem Fishing Derby a great day!

This past Saturday, we were honored to welcome 328 community members to our 4th annual derby. With your energy, enthusiasm, and love for the outdoors, you helped create a day full of joy, connection, and great memories.

🎁 Thanks to the incredible generosity of Scheels (Sparks, NV), we handed out 179 FREE youth fishing poles, helping inspire the next generation of anglers and nature lovers.

🏆 We also celebrated 8 amazing derby winners across youth and adult competitions, with awards for:

Most Carp Caught

Heaviest Carp

Longest Carp

Smallest Carp

None of this would have been possible without the support of our amazing event sponsors. We’re so grateful to each of you:

✨ Scheels
✨ Atlantis Casino Resort Spa
✨ Nevada Department of Wildlife
✨ Plenium Builders
✨ The Discovery Museum
✨ KTVN News 2 Nevada
✨ Fleischmann Planetarium
✨ Duncan Golf Management

✨ Americorps

Your partnership helps keep events like Carpe Diem free, inclusive, and deeply rooted in community and conservation.

To everyone who attended, volunteered, sponsored, or simply cheered us on—thank you for being part of this special event. 💚🐟

Happy Monday 🌞 New blog coming at you!

This week is all about savoring the sweet summer moments — from slow mornings and days at Idlewild to fresh, local food that just tastes like the season.

Our Communications Coordinator, Emily Guzmán, got to visit (where her favorite salad greens come from 🌱) and is sharing a simple salad recipe that’s perfect all summer long.

It’s more than just a salad — it’s a full-circle moment of community, connection, and nourishment.

⚾️☀️ Yesterday’s field trip to the Aces baseball game was a home run! Our campers had a blast cheering from the stands, soaking up the sun, and making summer memories they won’t forget. 💥🏟️

A parent of one of our campers shared:

“A personal thank you from my family and I for the amazing summer camps and scholarships you all provide. My kids really enjoy them and I am thankful they are able to attend thanks to your generosity.”

This is what it’s all about—community, joy, and creating space for every kid to explore, learn, and have fun.

Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is thrilled to announce we have been selected to receive a 2025 AARP Community Challenge grant. We are one of only 383 grantees selected (out of 3,450+ applications!) from across all 50 states, Washington D.C, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

With this quick-action grant, we will be able to promote the David's Chair, an electric off-road wheelchair at the Rosewood Nature Study Area, allowing individuals with mobility challenges — especially those age 50+ — to enjoy free access to nature trails that may have been previously inaccessible.

We are incredibly proud that AARP selected Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation for this investment to make Reno and Sparks more livable for residents of all ages. AARP is a nationwide leader in making communities more livable, and we are honored that they see the tangible value this project will bring to our area.
We’re grateful to AARP for making it possible for us to continue providing our community with a more inclusive outdoors!

Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas were finally told they were free — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
It is a day of delayed justice and enduring strength.

A day to honor ancestors and uplift futures.

A day when the land remembers, and so must we. 🕊️
At TMPF, we believe access to nature is part of freedom — and that every person deserves to feel safe, seen, and celebrated in the outdoors.
