Description of Organization
Project HELP Nevada (PHN), founded in early 2015, is a local 501(c) 3 charitable organization serving the at-risk population in Northern Nevada. Initially, PHN was developed as a resource center to connect people in need with services that matter. The target population for PHN is our communities’ at-risk citizens: homeless adults and youth, addicts, alcoholics, those escaping an abusive situation, individuals seeking to leave the s*x work industry, and youth aging out of foster care or the juvenile justice system. The first year of existence for PHN was spent developing a strong base of volunteers and strengthening the infrastructure. The original founders had a combined 40+ year’s experiential knowledge serving the at-risk population in the community. The volunteer base brought an additional 50+ years of experience working with the at-risk population in the criminal justice systems, area social service organizations and in the business world. In late 2016, PHN sought and invited a volunteer with more than 25+ years’ experience developing and managing charitable community organizations to join the team. The addition of this volunteer, the current Executive Director, quickly became a positive experience for PHN as she brought not only knowledge of the legalities associated with not-for-profits, but also the knowledge and experience needed to identify, develop and implement much needed program components.
