IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM WCSD

Good evening, families—

This is an important message from the Washoe County School District:

The District is actively working with regional public safety officials who are monitoring multiple fires in the northern region of our county. As of now, since there are no WCSD schools in the evacuation or possible evacuation zones, all WCSD schools will be open tomorrow, Monday, August 10.

Bus transportation will not be able to operate in the areas designated as “red” or “yellow”, meaning those that have been evacuated or are standing by for possible evacuation.

To see the areas that are designated as such, please visit www.perimetermap.com.

Please note if a school site is placed in a yellow or red zone overnight, the school will be closed and families will be notified in the morning.

Officials are closely monitoring the following schools due to the potential of changing conditions:

Desert Heights Elementary School
Silver Lake Elementary School
Lemmon Valley Elementary School
Shaw Middle School
Spanish Springs High School
Alyce Taylor Elementary School
Jesse Hall Elementary School
If you have not received any further notifications by 5:30 am tomorrow, Monday, August 10, your child’s school will be in session.

WCSD continues to work closely with public safety officials to ensure we are considering all aspects of this fire as we make these important decisions on behalf of our school families.

A message from Principal AuCoin:

Good evening, JWood Raw Families!

Tomorrow is the day! We are so excited to welcome our amazing Jags back for another incredible year of learning, growth, and success. We can't wait to see everyone's smiling faces as we kick off our fourth year together!

A few reminders for tomorrow:

School begins promptly at 9:00 a.m.
Our doors open at 8:45 a.m.

Kindergarten families are welcome to walk their kindergartner to their classroom to help make this special first day a little easier. Then kindergarten parents are invited to join us for our Tears and Cheers Breakfast from 8:45–9:15 a.m after drop off.

To help keep arrival safe and efficient, please remember that our loading zone is for active loading and unloading only. Please do not park or leave your vehicle in the loading zone. If you would like to walk your child to school, you are welcome to park on Green Pasture, Stepping Stone, or in our school parking lot. The loading zone is reserved for students who are able to independently enter and exit their vehicle so traffic can continue moving safely.

One important reminder: Students will lose things throughout the year—it happens! The best way to make sure lost items find their way back home is to label everything with your child's name, including jackets, backpacks, lunch boxes, and water bottles.

Don't forget:

Every Wednesday is Jag PRIDE Day! Wear your Jag Swag and show your school spirit.
Fridays are Wolf Pack Fridays! Wear your Nevada Wolf Pack gear or blue and silver.
Finally, we hope you'll join us for Back to School Night this Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in our MPR. You'll have the opportunity to meet your child's teacher, learn about the school year ahead, and discover ways we can partner together to make this the best year yet.

Thank you for being part of our JWood Raw family. We are grateful for your partnership and look forward to an amazing year filled with learning, friendships, and Jaguar PRIDE.

Tomorrow is the day! Come meet your teacher at the Better Together Breakfast from 8:30-9:30am. Bring your school supplies and meet your teacher. Families will enter through the cafeteria on the east side of the school by the bus lane. Donut holes, coffee and juice are being provided by PTO. Jag Swag will be available for purchase. Credit cards only. No cash please. Our amazing staff is so excited to meet you! Teachers will be outside of their classrooms and most classrooms will be closed. So bring your school supplies and find your classroom. Class lists will be posted. Can't wait to see all of our jags tomorrow!

Consider volunteering for a short shift this Thursday at the Meet and Greet Breakfast at 8:30am or next Tuesday at Back to School Night at 5:30pm. A message from J WOOD RAW

Good evening, Jag Families,

We hope you can join us for our Better Together Meet & Greet Breakfast on Thursday, August 6, from 8:30–9:30 a.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your child's teacher, see classmates, and drop off school supplies before the first day of school.

If you're unable to attend, don't worry! This Tuesday afternoon (8.4), every teacher will post a "Welcome to Our Classroom" message for their students so you can see who your child's teacher is and your family can begin making connections before school starts.

A few important reminders:

Breakfast and lunch are not free at JWood Raw. Please use this link to set up your meal account: www.myschoolbucks.com, and here for https://rocket.washoeschools.net/ information on applying for free and reduced-price meals.
Bus riders:
This school year, Washoe County School District is introducing Züm Transportation, a new transportation platform designed to give families greater visibility into their student's bus ride experience. Through the parent Züm app, called Züm – Student Transportation, families can view bus arrival information, receive notifications about delays or service updates, and receive alerts when their student scans on and off the bus. To get started, families will need to register here: https://www.washoeschools.net/zum. After entering their information, parents/guardians can confirm transportation eligibility and view their student's assigned bus stop. Your child will receive a bus pass that they will scan when getting on and off the bus each day. We highly recommend clipping the bus pass to your student’s backpack. Student information is pulled directly from Infinite Campus, so any updates to addresses or contact information must be made through JWood Raw. Please give us a call at 775 851-5444.
Finally, I would appreciate your partnership on attendance, which makes a tremendous difference. Every day matters. Last year, our chronic absenteeism increased, and we know we can do better together. I've included last year's attendance data by grade level. Remember, a student is considered chronically absent when he/she misses 10% or more of the school year (18 or more days). Let's start the year with strong habits by making school attendance a priority from day one.

Thank you for being part of our Jag family. We cannot wait to see everyone on Thursday and begin another incredible year together.
