The Washoe County Mounted Horse Unit Auxiliary is a 501 (c) (3) established to help raise funds in our community for expenses, upkeep and veterinary care as well as a regional training facility for our mounted units for training and practice. We are a nonprofit organization established to help raise funds in our community for the expenses, upkeep, training and veterinary care of the Washoe County
Mounted Horse Unit. In addition, we are working with individuals, businesses and organizations to build an Indoor Regional Training Facility for our Mounted Horse Units as well as our K9 Units for future multi unit training and practice. Our Deputies currently own their own horses, pay for their feed, supplements, farrier visits, annual veterinary care as well as any emergency care regardless of where it occurs. Each deputy pays for fuel for any transportation to and from events that they are engaged in as well. The MHU is in need of tack, uniforms and protective gear for the horses and riders. Our long term goals include helping with funding for an indoor Regional Training Facility which would be an incredible asset for our Sheriff’s department as well as regional and multi state training programs. There is a long history here in Nevada of hard work, dedication, commitment and integrity and these are just a few of the characteristics that are very evident in the riders and horses of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Mounted Horse Unit. We know the sacrifices that our law enforcement officers make every day for our community and we intend to work diligently every day to encourage our wonderful community to support the Washoe County Mounted Horse Unit Auxiliary.
