Yesterday, we had the privilege of attending Join Together Northern Nevada ‘s Overdose Awareness Day event at the National Automobile Museum, a powerful gathering filled with courage, honesty, remembrance, and hope.

Many brave individuals took the stage to share their recovery stories, including experiences with overdose, nearly losing everything, and the hard work it takes to rebuild a life. Others shared the grief of losing someone they love to an overdose. Each story was a powerful reminder of why recovery, prevention, and connection matter so deeply.

We were also inspired by keynote speaker Daniel Fred, who shared his own recovery journey and delivered a powerful message of hope. Daniel spoke about the profound impact a collegiate recovery program had on his life while attending Texas Tech and how that experience helped inspire his work to develop Nevada’s Recovery and Prevention program (NRAP), bringing similar support and hope to others in recovery.

We are honored to witness these stories and to be reminded of the incredible strength, resilience, and hope within our recovery community.

From all of us at Vitality Unlimited, congratulations to everyone who continues to do the hard work of recovery. Your stories matter. Your lives matter. And your courage inspires us. 💜

What does mental health recovery have to do with housing? A lot.

Yesterday we had the opportunity to attend the Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services Summit, hosted by the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health, and came away with an even deeper appreciation for the critical connection between stable housing and successful mental health recovery.

The summit featured insightful presentations from keynote speaker Julie Lindesmith, MPH, NNAMHS Agency Director, as well as Robin Reedy, Interim Executive Director of NAMI Nevada, who shared an inspiring message about “What We Could Do If We All Worked Together.” We also heard from Dr. Rachel Capuro, PsyD, Licensed Clinical Psychologist for NNAMHS, on “Promoting Independence While Ensuring Safety,” and Alicia Werner, APRN, among other dedicated professionals working to improve mental health services across Northern Nevada.

One statistic that particularly stood out: Nevada ranks among the states with the most severe shortages of affordable housing for extremely low-income households, with just 16 available and affordable homes for every 100 extremely low-income renter households.

The message was clear: recovery doesn’t happen in a vacuum. For individuals living with mental health conditions, stability, safety, and access to housing can be essential foundations for healing, independence, and long-term success.

Thank you to Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services and the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health for such an enriching and educational summit. We look forward to continuing to learn, collaborate, and be part of the solution as we work to provide greater stability and housing opportunities for the clients we serve.

Did you know Vitality Unlimited has a CCBHC in Dayton?

It may be small, but it’s mighty, and we’re excited about what’s ahead! 💙

Vitality’s Director of Behavioral Health Services, Heather Eaton, and Director of Substance Use Disorder Treatment, Marshall Gledhill, visited our Dayton Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) yeseterday to connect with the team and see the important work happening in the community.

And we’re not stopping there. We’re looking to expand our Dayton services soon, making it possible for us to reach and support even more people in the community.

We’re proud to be part of Dayton and excited for what’s next!

Last night, we had a wonderful time connecting with the Carson City community at Sheriff’s Night Out at Mills Park!

With more than 110 vendors in attendance, it was inspiring to see so many organizations, first responders, and families come together for an evening focused on community, safety, and fun. We especially enjoyed seeing Carson City’s law enforcement agencies all in one place, from the K-9 Unit and Equine Unit to Search & Rescue, Corrections, and the Sheriff’s Office.

Despite the summer heat, the park was full of energy with line dancing, K-9 demonstrations, raffle prizes, and activities for all ages.

One of the highlights for us was meeting so many parents and children at our booth. Kids (and plenty of adults, too!) had a blast participating in our interactive mental health activity, drawing colorful prompt cards with challenges like “Give yourself a hug” or “Do your silliest dance” to earn a prize. It was a fun way to spark conversations about mental wellness while sharing a few smiles and laughs along the way.

A big thank you to Sheriff Furlong and everyone who helped make this year’s event such a success. We appreciate the opportunity to be part of such a positive community tradition and are already looking forward to next year!
