The 1701 Group

The 1701 Group All-volunteer organization with 11 philanthropic programs, supported by Thrift & Gift on Vassar, which is open from 10-4 Tues through Sat. from 10-3.

at 1701 Vassar Street, Reno. We take donations Tu, Thu, and Sat. Formerly Assistance League Reno-Sparks. Assistance League of Reno-Sparks' 12 philanthropic programs are 100 percent administered and manned by our member-volunteers. Currently there are over 300 member-volunteers who donate more than 51,000 hours annually. The philanthropic programs focus on children, seniors, veterans and victims of

sexual assault. Each program was developed over time in response to meet a specific need in the community. Assistance League of Reno-Sparks is able to operate and fund the programs through generous donations and proceeds generated by the Thrift Shop and private donations.

It’s a great day for hanging out with our besties. That probably always means lifting and loading for our high school students in need.

Three young ladies arrived together. We motioned over to the feminine hygiene closet and said get what you need. They actually let out oohs and ahhs of appreciation. We told them they could take as much as they need and come back as often as they need. Later, they went out to the car and were gushing to their mom that they could regularly come back for these items.

Something a lot of us take for granted. Extra thankful for our generous The 1701 Group friends today.

Congratulations to our volunteer Lisa Hansen, chair of the Students in Transition program, on being recognized by the Nevada Women's Fund. Her team's efforts provide support for homeless high school students whose graduation is in jeopardy. This committee provides not only academic fees, but also food and clothing. Scholarships are offered for workplace certification programs as well. Thanks, Lisa, for truly making a difference in the lives of these students. We are so proud of you!
