The Remus Area Historical Society was formed to preserve the rich heritage of the Remus area, to generate interest, encourage historical research, bring a better understanding among the citizens of how the settlers and early residents of the area laid the foundations for our current way of life, and to maintain a museum for same.

Remus, MI – Remus Area Historical Society invites those interested in preserving area history to attend the Wednesday, 4:30 p.m. November 19th annual meeting at Remus Museum, 324 S Sheridan/M66, Remus, Michigan.
A historian and author, Dana Kenneth Johnson, with family ties to Millbrook, will give a short presentation. Come find your niche – creating displays, labeling donated items, sorting maps and family histories, developing programs, assisting with landscape and maintenance, sharing technology and artistic skills, and more. Become a donor member by sending check to PO 71, Remus, MI 49340.
Remus Area Historical Society, staffed by volunteers, is an educational charitable nonprofit serving Wheatland, Broomfield, Rolland, Millbrook, Hinton, Sheridan, Morton, Martiny, Austin, Colfax Townships and surrounding areas.

Four-Part Genealogy Workshop Series and New Genealogy Resources at Remus Museum

Remus, MI – The Remus Area Historical Society, which exists to preserve and celebrate the area's rich heritage, is offering two Genealogy programs that will help you build your Family History.

First, a four session Genealogy Workshop Series called How to Build Your Family Tree For Beginners taught by Mary Ann Stickler is being offered at Morton Township Library in Mecosta. The dates are October 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd from 10 a.m. to Noon. Participants will learn how to build a family tree, find free records via old newspapers and online databases, and receive personal guidance. The four-week series cost is $20. Some laptops are available on-site or bring your own. Register by Friday, September 26th, by emailing [email protected].

Second, persons conducting family history research can now use the foyer computer at the Remus Museum at 324 S. Sheridan on Wednesdays 11 to 3 through October 31st. (We close during the winter months.) The new Genealogy Resources Station, free to the public, features genealogy sites pinned to the foyer desktop such as : Genealogy Worksheets, Family Tree Magazine, RootsTech Connect video archives, Family Search, Cyndi’s List , US Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management, Digital Michigan Newspapers, Chronicling America, National Archives and Records Administration, Library of Congress, US Gen Web Project, Find-A-Grave and more. Also use the area family histories collected and note that your family history can be a resource for others. The Genealogy Station was made possible by The Michigan History Alliance® Grant Program / Historical Society of Michigan / Meijer Center for Michigan History.

The Remus Tavern has been owned by the Lipar family for several decades now. Prior to being known as the Remus Tavern, it was called Tacy’s and then George’s Tavern. Regardless of name, the Tavern remains a staple in Remus life.

The Remus Area Historical Society, Inc., an educational and charitable organization, was formed to celebrate the heritage and preserve the cultural and historical resources of the eastern townships of Mecosta County and the western edge of Isabella County. The Museum serves area residents, tourists, and former residents. The all-volunteer group is organized as a nonprofit corporation; donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
