Reidsville Ga. Police Department and Reidsville Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle tractor-trailer rollover accident at the intersection of Lynntown Road and North Main Street around 8 PM last night. Upon arrival, Tattnall County EMS assessed the driver and subsequently requested Air Evac to transport them to Savannah. The Reidsville Fire Department handled this incident along with three other calls for service during the same period. Southbound traffic was completely closed, while northbound traffic was diverted. The Reidsville Ga. Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, and MCCD investigated the accident. Georgia Power addressed a broken power pole and downed power lines, and Dee's Wrecker service from Lyons worked to unload wood chips from the trailer and remove the vehicle. The road was reopened around 3:50 AM. We request prayers for the driver's well-being.

On June 1st at 5:06 AM, Tattnall County Fire, Reidsville Fire Department, Rogers State Prison Fire, and Tattnall County EMS responded to a structure fire on Rodeo Drive. Upon arrival, fire units found a single-wide mobile home with added rooms approximately 80% engulfed in flames. Additional apparatus and a water tanker arrived on scene to assist with fire extinguishment. Georgia Power was notified to disconnect electricity to the structure due to live wires, but took 2 hours and 24 minutes to arrive and complete the task. During this time, fire units waited for power disconnection before proceeding. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. The Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance to the property owner. Notably, while en route to the structure fire, one of our firemen encountered a tractor-trailer fire on Hwy 121 near the cell tower, requiring some personnel to respond to the additional incident. The Tattnall County Sheriff's Office helped manage traffic during the Tractor Trailer Fire.

On May 31, 2026, at approximately 5:20 PM, the Tattnall County Fire and Reidsville Fire Department responded to a reported storage shed fire situated on Mallory Road off Rod Strickland Road. Upon arrival, the first unit confirmed the wooden storage shed was fully engulfed in flames. Owing to the shed's remote location in the woods, firefighting efforts necessitated dropping a line at the road and carrying extra hose to the scene to effectively extinguish the fire. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries. The owner suspects a lightning strike may have caused the fire. We extend our gratitude to all fire personnel who responded to the incident.

At approximately 8:05 AM today, multiple agencies including Tattnall County Fire, Reidsville Fire Department, Glennville Fire Department, Rogers State Prison Fire, Smith State Prison Fire, Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office, and Tattnall County EMS responded to a structure fire on Battle Creek Church Rd. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries. The response involved multiple fire departments providing water supply and manpower support, which was greatly appreciated given the volunteer departments' limited staffing. The Department of Corrections' fire teams proved to be a valuable asset to the county during all incidents.

The Tattnall Fireman’s Fund, established by the Reidsville Fire Department, continues its mission of supporting the future of Public Safety and Emergency Services through community fundraising efforts, including the annual 30 for 30 raffle. The Fund’s governing board proudly administers a scholarship program dedicated to assisting graduates pursuing careers focused on serving and protecting others.

This initiative reflects the ongoing commitment of the Reidsville Fire Department and the surrounding community to invest in the next generation of emergency service professionals. This morning at approximately 8:30 am, the Reidsville Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on Chandler Avenue in Reidsville. Upon arrival, Reidsville Ga. Police Department and Reidsville Fire Department found the vehicle had flames emanating from the engine compartment, as reported by the caller. We extend our gratitude to Tiny Tots Learning Center for evacuating the children as a precautionary measure. The fire was successfully extinguished without any injuries or damage to nearby buildings. We would like to express our appreciation to all parties involved in the response.

Reidsville Fire Department will be applying for the FEMA Grant, a good way to try to get equipment, vehicles, and Fire Gear. Hopefully this is the year to get Grants for Reidsville Fire Department

FEMA is making $648M available to help firefighters and first responders nationwide get the equipment, staffing and support they need to protect lives and communities. The funding includes:

• $291.6M for equipment, vehicles, PPE and responder wellness
• $324M to help departments hire, recruit and retain firefighters
• $32.4M for fire prevention and firefighter safety research

The Tattnall County Fire Drill was conducted at the Cobbtown Fire station on Saturday, focusing on water shuttles and drafting water from ponds, creeks, or swimming pools, which serve as the nearest water sources due to the absence of hydrants in the county. Concurrently, while hands-on training was underway, Cobbtown responded to a brush fire. Upon returning to the Cobbtown Fire Department, a complimentary lunch was provided courtesy of O'Quinn & Threlkeld Insurance Agency. Additionally, Collins Volunteer Fire Department and Reidsville Fire Department responded to a brush fire call. Walt Rogers generously delivered lunch to the fire scene. Appreciation is extended to O'Quinn & Threlkeld Insurance and Amy G. Terrell for their support of the volunteer fire departments.

Over the past couple of months, I have been made aware of several negative comments regarding our County and City Fire Departments. I would like to take a moment to clarify a few key points. All fire departments in our area are comprised of volunteer personnel, meaning we do not have paid firefighters working 24-hour shifts. When emergency calls are received, particularly at night, our dedicated volunteers must quickly respond by getting dressed, traveling to the nearest station, and then proceeding to the incident location. This process, by its very nature, requires some time. Nonetheless, our volunteers consistently demonstrate a remarkable commitment to serving and protecting our community, properties, and loved ones. As someone familiar with the fire departments in Tattnall County and its cities, I can confidently attest that they provide exceptional service, rivaling any other department in the region. To those who might be inclined to criticize our fire departments without understanding the full context, I extend an invitation to join us for a day of training session. This would provide valuable insight into the countless hours of training, personal time, and sacrifices our volunteers make to ensure the safety and well-being of our community members, often at a moment's notice, be it during holidays, special occasions, or in the dead of night.
