Have you ever seen the 14 foot white cross and meditation area on the hill at Camp GuilRock? This was completed as an eagle project in 2007 by Matthew Marshall and his family. Board member Sybil Shreve dreamed of a cross, and Matthew took this huge project on and dedicated it to her. For many years this cross has served as a beacon of hope and Christ’s love on the hill overlooking the camp. Shortly after it was completed, his parents held their 30th vow renewal ceremony in the meditation area.
Matthew passed away in January at 36. In his memory, his parents have spent hours painting the cross and cleaning up the meditation area. His memorial service was held at the cross on June 7th, 2026. The family gathered at the cross to celebrate his life and his Christian witness, especially the contribution of the cross at camp. Matthew and his family spent many days camping at Camp Guilrock and building the cross as a family. Camp GuilRock will always be a special place for their family to gather. We are so thankful for all they have done over the many years they have been a part of this ministry.
