What influences connections to heritage?

Audrey Ledford, with her background in Foreign Service, looks into the intersection of heritage, identity, and geography in this episode.

Drawing from her experiences in the Snorri Program in 2024, Audrey offers us some rather unique insights into how culture and history shape the way we view ourselves and our place in the world. . . .

Both thought-provoking and deeply personal - what you'll learn:
🔹 How Audrey’s studies in Foreign Service shaped her view of Icelandic culture
🔹 The powerful ties between heritage, geography, and self-identity

If you're curious about how personal and cultural histories intertwine with global forces, don’t miss our recent podcast episode: https://icelandicroots.podbean.com/

NDSGS had a wonderfully informative session on mapping, GPS & ground radar and how it is used in your genealogical work! A shout out to Andrew Robinson, Sate Archaeologist for his interesting presentation!
This was our 1st meeting to try sharing with others across the state via Zoom and we were happy to see that 2 people were able to join us virtually. Look for future meetings being offered through Zoom. As we had enough members present to have a quorum, we approved minutes and acknowledged Patrice Hartman as Treasurer, Kari Hausauer as Secretary and Pat Ashley, Newsletters. We are actively looking for members who would be willing to help us in the President and Vice President positions. These are not time consuming positions. Help keep our organization strong and educational by stepping into a position! Please message or contact Patrice, Kari or Pat for more information.

Don Smith was active for many years in our ND State Genealogical Society as our Treasurer from the beginning until 2012. He was always fun to visit with and travel with. Don was a very positive person and worked on many of the early indexing projects in the Burleigh and Morton County areas.

John Mogren was a charter member of our ND State Genealogical Society and helped guide our group in the early years. Always involved and ready to help. John has indexed many early newspapers and other genealogical records in the Minot area and surrounding counties.

Jacki Keck was involved in the early years and helped with many of the organizational challenges for our ND State Genealogical Society. Jacki was involved in the local group in Williston and always a source for new research areas.

George Freeman of Grand Forks came to some of our later meetings and was good with technology and always looking for ways to encourage digitization of records. He was involved in the Icelandic heritage group and also indexed and published several family heritage books.

Daphne Drewello of Jamestown participated for years with George Barron on cemetery recordings and library resources. She also served as an officer for several years in our ND State Genealogical Society.

Susan Di**le was one of my first contacts at the State Historical Society of ND archives and helped me learn my way around the stacks and microfilm areas. She participated in many areas of our ND State Genealogical Society over the years.

Greg Wysk continued as my contact at the State Historical Society of ND archives in later years and was a great help in many ways over the years. He also served as an officer in our ND State Genealogical Society and was very knowledgeable about resources in the archives and how to find them.

I am sure I have forgotten someone or several people but will end this article for now. Some of these mentors are still with us and some have gone to greener pastures but they all contributed to my vast knowledge of ND history and genealogy and helped to shape my life and my pursuit of family history. Thank you to all who helped on this journey and may we continue to pursue the lives of our ancestors and to solve mysteries. Please remember to preserve any and all records that are in your possession or that you find along the way so that the future generations will have them to learn from.
