When Mrs. Castillo saw the PAAC van during a Pets for Life neighborhood outreach event, she walked over hoping we might be able to help. She deeply loved her six dogs, but financial and transportation barriers had prevented her from getting them spayed, neutered, and vaccinated.
Through Pets for Life, we were able to offer the care she needed at no cost. Her first two dogs received surgery, vaccinations, flea and tick treatment, and nail trims. One was pregnant, preventing an unexpected litter Mrs. Castillo was not prepared to manage.
Transportation problems nearly caused her next appointments to be canceled, but PAAC stepped in with free round-trip transportation. Joker and Rose safely made it to the clinic, where Rose was found to be pregnant and Joker—the father of previous litters—was neutered. These two surgeries helped stop the cycle of unplanned litters and brought Mrs. Castillo closer to having a healthy, fully protected pet family.
Her final two dogs, Ginger and Molly, had recently given birth, so their surgeries must wait until their puppies are old enough. PAAC is committed to staying beside Mrs. Castillo until both mothers and all their puppies receive the care they need.
