No bragging—just a whole lot of gratitude. We truly have the most amazing organization and community!

Today, we celebrated a HUGE milestone as the first child we've had the privilege of mentoring prepares to graduate from high school. Watching this journey come full circle is a reminder of why we do what we do.

We also spent an incredible afternoon with the most delightful students from Brillion Middle School. Their energy, kindness, and enthusiasm made the day extra special.

Days like today remind us that this never feels like "work." When you're doing what you love, and walking alongside incredible kids, families, and partners, it is far more a blessing than a job.

Our hearts are full, and we are so thankful for every opportunity to invest in the lives of children. ❤️

Burdens, brokenness, struggles, worry, anxiety...these are all things that are far beyond what children were ever meant to carry.

Trauma, instability, fear, hardship, (even suicidal thoughts are coming at earlier and earlier ages.

THIS FAITH FRIDAY, we want to AMPLIFY our calling as mentors, caregivers, and community members is to provide safe and nurturing spaces where children can simply be children—free to grow, heal, learn, and experience joy.

Our goal is not to shelter youth from reality in a way that leaves them unprepared for life, but rather to surround them with the love, guidance, and stability needed to build resilience and hope.

Scripture continually reveals God as a loving Father who walks beside us, carries us through difficult seasons, and reminds us that we are never alone. The children and families we get to serve need that same steady presence—from Him and through those of us that He's placed in their lives.

Two years ago, today, I would have never guessed that we'd have a Home Aweigh Acres or that we would have had the incredible conversations, experiences, partnerships, blessings...beyond anything that we could have imagined. We faced some tough challenges in these two short years, but GOD FOUGHT FOR US!! All we had to do was trust Him!!

I am confident, that by the end of today, we will celebrate one of our biggest victories in HAAI history!!! And if I haven't said "I'm thankful" strongly or loudly enough, I am beyond thankful to EVERYONE that put their faith in the Home Aweigh Acres organization!!

TODAY'S TRAUMA TUESDAY = TRANSPARENCY TIME

I’m not proud to admit this, but sometimes I can be guilty of simply “coasting” through busy days and difficult seasons. Life gets overwhelming, schedules get full, and before I realize it, I’ve become consumed by the demands of everyday life and momentarily lose sight of the trauma that brought us into this ministry in the first place.

But I am so grateful for a God who knew I would not always be “on.”

Even through my failings, distractions, shortcomings, and exhaustion… God has never moved. His purpose has never changed. He placed us here for such a time as this — to care for the wounded hearts of His children and to walk alongside families carrying burdens too heavy to bear alone.

The beautiful thing about trauma-informed ministry is that it constantly reminds us that healing is not about perfection. It is about showing up, staying present, extending grace, and allowing God to work through imperfect people with willing hearts.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” ~ Psalm 147:3

“For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” ~ Proverbs 2:6

Today, I’m thankful that even when we grow weary, distracted, or discouraged, God remains faithful to the mission He has called us to, providing resources and relationships to help us through.

Discover practical, biblically grounded guidance to help you understand your trauma and begin your journey towards hope healing.

Probably my all-time favorite movie line: ATTITUDE REFLECTS LEADERSHIP, CAPTAIN ~ Remember the Titans.

Probably my favorite prayer: "Lord, make our hearts TENDER & PLIABLE".

As I reflect on today's WHO ARE WE WEDNESDAY, these two "favorites" of mine come to mind...

3:30 p.m.
Girl 1: I don't want to go to the barn today. I have a headache and my stomach hurts.

Me: Oh no! I'm sorry! How about if we just do a shorter session?
Girl 1: I don't know. I hit my head on a pole. That's why it hurts, and I just want to go to sleep.

Me: ( slightly dramatic) Make sure you say something when you get home, in case you have a concussion and have to go to the
hospital.

Girl 1: ♫ sings an unidentified song.
Girl 2 is oblivious to everything because she has earbuds in.

We arrive to the barn...
Me (to girl 2): Are you ok? You seem a little off.
Girl 2: I kind of am
Me: Do you want to talk?
Girl 2: I talked to a teacher at school.
Me: Ok. I'm here to listen if you want to talk more.

I tell the girls that we can do the chores and then run up the road to pick up some "thank you" flowers for a partner that we love.

They both tackle their chores with NO distractions or complaints.
Girl 1 chooses horse snuggle time. Girl 2 lays in the grass, contently watching the clouds, informing us "Sometimes it's just nice to lay in the grass".

We drive the back roads, windows down, singing...♫ I Should've Been a Cowboy". ♫ (Girl 1's choice)

They loved the garden center and worked together to pick the perfect arrangement among 100's of options.

WHO WE ARE = HOW WE ARE!!
Tender, pliable, allowing the Lord to Lead us, so we can lead them.

MISSION MONDAY & TRAUMA TUESDAY really go hand-in-hand. The pictures below are a perfect snapshot of what we envisioned when we named, and developed the mission of HOME Aweigh Acres!! We vowed to provide skilled, trauma-informed mentoring to vulnerable youth in safe & serene spaces that feel like home. Our goal was never just to offer services — it was to teach and model compassion, faith, and service to the next generation.

And that is exactly what we’ve been witnessing.

Whether literal or figurative, when the storms hit, our kids, families, and volunteers show up for one another every single time. I truly wish I had more pictures to capture the beautiful ways the Home Aweigh family has cared for each other — through encouraging words, prayers, meals, gift cards, gas money, yard clean-up, helping hands, and simply being present when someone needed support.

That’s what healing communities look like.
That’s what love in action looks like.
And that’s what happens when people feel safe, valued, and connected.

We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but my heart is incredibly grateful for all that God has already provided and for every person He has brought alongside us on this journey.

FAITH FRIDAY... “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” ~ Luke 1:37

It’s been a busy week managing life, so today we’re just doing a quick recap — and it is ALL ABOUT FAITH!!

MISSION MONDAY:
We started this week with our minds fixed on the mission: being mentors who demonstrate what it looks like to BUILD FAITH. We don’t just tell these kiddos and families to “have faith.” We walk by faith. We hold onto faith. We trust that He is a Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him — and He has rewarded us greatly!! Just look at these boys celebrating victory!!

TRAUMA TUESDAY:
“We do not have a High Priest (Jesus) who cannot sympathize with our weakness.”
Jesus knows the trauma inflicted on His children. We continue to be amazed by His faithfulness in positioning the program at Crossing 'S' Performance Horses and the Home Aweigh Home just a few miles down the road. That has allowed us to continue serving kids impacted by trauma and hardship while also managing Bryon D. Zimmerman health and heart care.

WHO WE ARE WEDNESDAY:
We truly have become a little family. We create prayer chains and meal trains. We go to the hurting without thinking first of our own comfort or needs. I give us an A+ for serving and demonstrating service to the under-served — and this past week, that same love and care was poured right back into us.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY:
Silent Symphony LLC— this girl has the biggest heart and spirit and knows how to calm and bring peace not only to a 2,000 lb. animal, but also to hurting children of all ages and sizes. By faith, she came on board with us and has been a fun-loving, constant, compassionate friend to everyone. We love and appreciate you, Klara Rose, more than you will ever know.

And finally, it all comes back to FAITH.

Faith brought us to this place, and faith will see us through.

THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this past week such a blessing. Your prayers, encouragement, kindness, meals, support, and love have carried us in ways we cannot fully express.

God is faithful. Always.
