Dear Friends,

We’ve got some news. Since 2013, Reedsburg ArtsLink has been invigorating our community by growing the arts. None of our work would’ve been possible without your support, and we want to thank you. We hope you share our pride in what we’ve achieved.

After months of soul-searching among its leadership, ArtsLink will be sunsetting. Although our doors may be closing, ArtsLink’s legacy will live on. Our assets will be transferred to the Community Foundation of South Central Wisconsin to be held in trust for the benefit of Ruminant and Harvest Park. A newly-formed Friends of Ruminant group will help steward the funds.

We’re especially proud of these projects:

Ruminant/Harvest Park. Award-winning public art now figures prominently downtown.

Second Sundays at The Painted Forest. Raised awareness of this Sauk County art treasure in Valton.

Youth Arts Programming & Reedsburg Area High School Art Exhibits. Created outlets for and recognition of our community’s youth artists.

Reedikulus Arts Crawls. Gave local artists a platform and animated downtown.

20 Poems Project. A poetry scavenger hunt encourages visitors to explore downtown.

Ahuchoga: Blue Wing’s Legacy mural, and the Indigenous Peoples Coloring Pages created for Reedsburg schoolchildren — two projects that showed appreciation for our region's first people, the Ho-Chunk.

We believe creative communities are strong communities. With your support, we’ve initiated dozens of additional programs, projects, classes, and community collaborations. We’ve fostered connections between local and regional people that helped their creative ideas flourish. We’ve fought to get creatives at tables where important decisions are made, and we’ve raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support the arts in our community. All of our work has been volunteer, much of it behind the scenes.

More than anything, we hope we’ve ignited a spark in you, and that new arts leadership will emerge. We encourage you to be a torchbearer, to take creative risks, and to advocate for the arts, especially on the local level. There’s still plenty of work to be done.

Let’s take this opportunity to celebrate all we’ve achieved together over the past 10 years. Join us for a free buffet lunch and a brief program at Beastro & Barley, 125 E. Main St., Sunday, February 19, 11 am-1 pm. There will be a cash bar plus a commemorative glass to take home. To RSVP, click here: https://forms.gle/V7w6mZ8r8yagAKGx5

Keep in touch, thanks again, and we hope to see you soon!

Ruminant will be featured in a premiere middle school Art text used in US middle schools! Congratulations to artist Karl Unnasch on this honor! We’re so proud that one of your award-winning creations has a home in Reedsburg!

And now… 🎆 (❄️**FINAL REFLECTION of 2022: Post 4 of 4**❄️)

Humbled to announce: The esteemed Davis Publications, Inc. school art textbooks recently included three of my major works in its new “Experience Art” middle school textbook, with multiple extensive mentions.

Beyond honored that author Marilyn G. Stewart saw it fit to explore my work in this book, alongside names like Kehinde Wiley, Mark Dion, Katharina Fritsch, Jeffrey Gibson, Frida Kahlo, van Gogh, Rembrandt, and on.

Still pinching myself.

Included are Ruminant in Reedsburg, WI; Rustician in Montevideo, MN; and Operant, which was exhibited in Boston, MA during 2019. (There’s more about each of them on my website.)

More about the book, including a sample, at: https://www.davisart.com/products/middle-school/
It’s available both as a hardcover-bound (print run of up to 200,000) and as an eBook on the Davis Digital platform.

Davis Publications, Inc. describes itself as a small, family-owned company that, since 1901, has been the only publisher solely dedicated to art education (K–12); its mission is to publish superior art curriculums and content within a company culture of integrity, creativity, and respect.

Shout-out with big thanks to my photographer/collaborators Kristi Link Fernholz Photography, Aaron Dysart, and Dunn, who’ve also been credited in the text.

Especially big thanks to Joann Mundth, Patrick Moore, and Kristi Link Fernholz! We’ll get a sample textbook in the mail to each of you soon so you can share this where it matters within your communities. 💞

Big appreciation also to Reedsburg ArtsLink, Wormfarm Institute, The Ruminant/Harvest Park Project, Jan Aslaksen, Kotchi-Aslaksen, MAP-Montevideo Arts Project, Upper Minnesota Valley Regional Development Commission, Monte Chamber, Southwest Minnesota Arts Council, Lucas Cowan, Sheila Hager Novak, Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, Americans for the Arts … and many, many others.

Happy New Year from Team KUA! 🥃🎆
