When I Grow Up

When I Grow Up Empowering Children out of Extreme Poverty When I Grow Up is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering children out of extreme poverty.

Through effective global partnerships we have opened up effective channels for people in the Western world to be able to give and serve directly hundreds of hurting and helpless children around the globe who are now no longer beyond our reach.

This spring, we’re inviting 25 people to step in and commit to giving $100/month.

Some have already said yes—would you join them?

$100/month = life-changing.

Because of faithful donors, students are receiving:
• meals
• education
• care
• a real chance to break free from poverty

If you already give, consider increasing to $100/month.

If you’re new, this is a powerful place to start.

Email us to increase your giving: [email protected]

New Donors visit our website to give monthly.

As we move toward Easter, we’re reminded that new life is possible—and you get to be part of that story.

Flooding has devastated parts of the community where our partners live from Furaha in the Huruma slum.

When disaster strikes in the slums, the least of these suffer the most.

Three families connected to Furaha have lost nearly everything.

The little boy in this video is Atara, one of Furaha’s students. He is being carried out of his home as his family fled the rising water. Nearly everything they owned was swept away.

They have been left with nothing.

This is why we ask you to stand with us.

When you give, you are not just sending aid — you are standing beside families in their most vulnerable moments and helping change the trajectory of their lives.

To our faithful donors, thank you. Because of you, the light of Christ reaches into some of the darkest places.

Helping Furaha through a monthly gift or a one time gift is the way we can help families who are faced with the daily challenges of living in extreme poverty. Give through the link in our bio.

The Furaha Junior Community School is now open.

This school represents opportunity, dignity, and hope for an entire community.

To help sustain this work, we are inviting 25 giving people to commit to $100/month. Your monthly support helps keep this school strong and allows life-changing programs to continue.

$100 a month has the power to transform lives and keep children on a path out of extreme poverty.

• New donors can begin their monthly giving through the link in our bio.
• Existing donors who would like to increase their impact by $100/month can email [email protected] to adjust their giving.

Be part of the story.
Together we can continue bringing hope and opportunity to these children.

Last week, we stood in Kenya and watched it with our own eyes.

Children learning in the new school you helped build.
Students receiving occupational therapy for the very first time.
Kids with disabilities being seen, supported, and empowered.

The work is real.
The impact is happening.
God’s Kingdom is breaking into hard places.

And now we come home with one clear invitation.

We are looking for 25 people to give $100 a month — or for those who already give, to increase their monthly impact to $100 — so this work can continue and grow.

Education. Therapy. Safe spaces. Hope.

Be part of the 25.
Be part of the story.

Velma.

— her story is one of redemption, resilience, and return. 🤍

She first walked through the gates of Furaha as an elementary student. She grew. She learned. She persevered. She graduated high school. She went on to university.

And now?

She’s back.

Back as a Furaha teacher.
Back pouring into the next generation.
Back leading students in dance — the very same dance program she once participated in as a student, even competing as part of the Furaha dance team years ago.

This is the story we pray for.
A child empowered out of poverty… who returns to lift others up.

Your generosity changes one life.
That life changes a community.

Come be part of stories like hers.
Join the story.

At Furaha, love looks like a home. 🤍

For students who are orphaned—or whose parents are unable to care for them—Furaha’s safe houses provide more than a roof. They offer warm meals, safety, consistency, and the embrace of family.

These homes are places of comfort and belonging, where children are known, protected, and deeply loved. This is Christ’s love embodied—present in everyday care, shared tables, bedtime prayers, and the steady reminder that no child is alone.

Thank you to every supporter who helps make these safe places possible. You are helping turn compassion into shelter and hope into a home.

Because of you, hope is turning into opportunity.

At Furaha Street Business School, women are being equipped with real tools, practical training, and ongoing support to launch businesses, provide for their families, and step confidently into leadership within their communities.

To our generous donors—thank you. Your faithfulness makes this program possible and is changing lives in tangible, lasting ways.

And to the incredible women pictured here: we celebrate your courage, resilience, and determination. You are entrepreneurs. You are providers. You are leaders.

This is what empowerment looks like when the love of Christ meets opportunity.

Every day is filled with song and joy. Did you know Furaha means joy in Swahili?

The students at the Furaha Community Foundation truly live out that name. They are full of joy, full of song, and deeply thankful for the gift of education. Most of all, they give praise to Christ Jesus—Yahweh, our miracle worker.

Their lives are a testimony to the miracles witnessed every single day, as each child is being empowered out of extreme poverty and into hope, purpose, and new life.

Miguel’s story is a full-circle miracle. 🤍

He began at Furaha at just 3 years old in the babies class. He grew up learning, dreaming, and discovering his gifts—graduating from Furaha High and going on to become an Occupational Therapist.

As a child in Huruma, Miguel saw children with disabilities who were overlooked and underserved. That burden stayed with him. It shaped his calling.

Today, Miguel is back at Furaha—serving children with disabilities in the very community that raised him. What once felt like an impossible dream is now Kingdom work in action.

This is what happens when you invest in children for the long term. Lives are changed. Leaders are formed. Communities are restored. The kingdom of Heaven comes to earth.

Come be part of the story.

Donate using the link in our bio and help raise the next generation of leaders, healers, and difference-makers.

To every person who has visited our partners and continues to give, thank you.
To each supporter who has never visited, yet gives faithfully by faith, thank you.

The children of Furaha pray for you—lifting their voices in gratitude to God for your generosity.

Your graciousness is Kingdom work. It is life-changing. It is the work of Christ.

Thank you.
