Students are encouraged to make their nature journal their own and draw as we hike. Watch as this third grader describes a very detailed map they drew on our trip to the river.

Our third grade nature detectives practice using a very important scientific tool - a notebook! They learn that sketching what we find can help us look closely and solve mysteries. In these two examples, students examined blackberry leaves to discover adaptations that help the plant survive. (The second notebook shows the student's vision of what happens if a deer tries to eat blackberry leaves 😂)

The mysteries our third grade nature detectives find along the trail.

The (outdoor) school year is off to a great start! We hiked all the way to the river with 2nd grade stream detectives. They did great on the hike and learned about how water shapes the land, where it comes from, where it goes, erosion, currents, sediment and Steelhead Trout!

The show begins at 7 pm! Ukiah Civic center!
