Many of our clients return over their academic lifespan, starting in early elementary school and returning for updated assessments and guidance in middle school, high school, college, graduate school, and beyond. Our assessment, tutoring, and therapy services teach students to access their learning strengths to compensate for areas of weakness. We feel that our clients benefit significantly from o
ur services, and often report notable success in school and/or their professional lives. Designed to address the broad needs of children, adolescents, and adults with learning challenges, attention disorders, and emotional difficulties, Morrissey-Compton Educational Center was founded in 1982 in Palo Alto, CA by Patricia Morrissey, EdD and Carolyn Compton, PhD. Government funding cutbacks were impacting school-based programs at that time, and Pat and Carolyn’s vision was to develop an organization that could provide tutoring, summer school, and diagnostic services for students with learning disabilities. The current executive director is John T. Brentar, PhD, a licensed psychologist with 26 years of experience in the field of learning disabilities. We have a staff of more than 20 highly-trained psychologists and educational specialists who provide a full array of diagnostic, tutoring, and counseling services to over 500 families every year. In addition, we have operated Challenge School, a summer school program for children with mild to moderate learning disabilities, for 33 years. In 2013, 65 children attended Challenge School. In 2011, Morrissey-Compton Educational Center opened a satellite office in Half Moon Bay to address the significant unmet needs of students on the coast. Our headquarters was moved to its current site in Redwood City in 2014.
