📸 Featured Artist: Shelley Hodes ()

Shelley is compelled by the ambiguity of opposites. Her work probes the area between the subtle and the obvious potential that we possess as human beings. She is currently exploring the loss of the health of our planet, the dubious focus of our technical attentions and the questionable condition of our collective conscience.

Shelley’s works, including the “Toranecrocene” series, are currently on view in "A Measure of Uncertainty" at the Center for Creativity through June 28, 2026.

Earlier this month we welcomed 16 middle and high school students from across San Mateo County for our Youth Poetry & Collage Project. Through poetry and collage, students explored identity, memory, and the question "Where Am I From?" The work they created became "It’s in the Details".

On the first day, guided by , San Mateo County Poet Laureate, and , the 2025 California Youth Poet Laureate, students explored creative expression through poetry. On the second day, local collage artists (Emma Peyton, Ellen Brook, Betsy Halaby, Susie Peyton) guided students through the artistic process, using their poems as inspiration for unique collage artwork. It was an incredibly creative and meaningful two days, culminating in a live poetry reading at the Redwood City Public Library.

This project was made possible through a grant from the City of Redwood City Arts Commission, in partnership with Redwood City Public Library and San Mateo County Office of Arts and Culture.

Be sure to check out It's In the Details on exhibit at the Center for Creativity -- with a free opening reception on June 6 at 12 pm!

Thanks to everyone who came out for Intro to SoulCollage® last week. We loved seeing the space filled with people making, sharing, and hanging out together.

A big part of CfC is making room for artists to try things out - whether it's a class, workshop, performance, meetup, or something totally new!
