WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

Our 8th Annual BraveMaker Film Festival is just over a month away, and we need generous people like you to help make it happen.

This year, we are facing a significant challenge: four sponsors who supported us last year are unable to do so this year, leaving a $20,000 funding gap in our festival budget.

As a small nonprofit arts organization, every dollar matters. Rather than scaling back our vision, accessibility efforts, and opportunities for filmmakers, we're inviting our community at this special event to help us bridge that gap.

🎉 Meet Our Festival Publicist! 🎉

We are thrilled to welcome Gardenia as the official publicist for our 8th annual BraveMaker Film Festival!

After years of supporting BraveMaker—championing our mission through press coverage, community advocacy, and generous donor support—we are beyond grateful to have Gardenia officially join our team in this role.

Gardenia Zuniga is the founder of GZ Publicity, a Bay Area public relations firm dedicated to amplifying organizations, artists, nonprofits, and leaders rooted in community impact, arts, culture, and social justice. With over five years of experience in media relations, storytelling, and community engagement, she has helped Black and Brown communities gain meaningful visibility through strategic campaigns, partnerships, and media outreach.

Gardenia has worked with BraveMaker Film Festival since 2021 and has supported numerous film festivals, filmmakers, and cultural activations throughout the Bay Area, including Sundance Film Festival. Her work spans television, film, arts advocacy, philanthropy, and community-centered initiatives, using storytelling as a tool to create visibility, connection, and lasting impact.

🎬✨ MEET OUR 2026 LUMINARY ACTOR HONOREE ✨🎬

We celebrate actor Phillip Andre Botello as our 2026 Luminary Actor Honoree at the 8th Annual BraveMaker Film Festival! 🌟

Phillip will be joining us throughout the festival to share his journey, participate in panels and workshops, and encourage actors, filmmakers, and creatives of all kinds to keep pursuing the work that brings them life, purpose, and joy.

🎥 This year, Phillip appears in FOUR film projects screening at our fest!

You may know Phillip from:
• The Art of Self-Defense opposite Jesse Eisenberg
• Sunset on the River Styx
• Pledge

Most recently, Phillip completed filming the upcoming Netflix feature One Attempt Remaining opposite John Cena, as well as a new feature from A24. He also appeared in Season 2 of The Rehearsal alongside Nathan Fielder.

Having trained on the BFI Academy, where she was selected for BAFTA mentorship, she began producing in 2016.

She started her production company in 2018, focusing on short films about dreamers who dare to do things differently and one of her 2020 short films was longlisted for Best British Short at the BAFTAs.

In 2018, she expanded into coaching after seeing award-winning writers and directors quitting the industry because they were burnt-out, broke and didn’t know what to do. Since then, Charlotte has helped over 600 filmmakers find 20+ producers in 4 days, overcome 9-month-long creative blocks, build a thriving network that spans four countries and get hired as a director through just one tweet.

When she’s not reading scripts or on coaching calls with filmmakers, you can find her in a bookshop with a strong cappuccino.☕️

But it's important as a leader to be honest when help is needed.

As we approach our 8th annual BraveMaker Film Fest, we’re facing a difficult reality: the funding we need to fully bring this year’s festival to life simply isn’t coming in at the level we hoped.

I am naturally optimistic. I tend to believe things will work out. And they usually do. But lately, I’ve found myself making budget cuts, scaling back plans, and carefully prioritizing what we can sustainably offer our community.

One thing I know for certain: I cannot do this work alone.

BraveMaker has always been about people bravely showing up for stories, for artists, for mental health, for connection, and for one another. So instead of pretending everything is fine, we’re choosing honesty — and inviting our community to rise with us.
