Second Baptist Church is a multicultural organization where we welcome all peoples and identities to praise The Lord, study His word, and win the world to do the same. Second Baptist Church came into existence through the providence of God in September of 1965. Washington, Moderator of the Bay Area Baptist District Association, officially organized the Second Baptist Church of Redwood City, California under Rev. In 1972, under the leadership of Rev. Robert Fairley, the church purchased the property on which our current building stands. Chester Leon Metters was called to Pastor Second Baptist Church in December of 1979 and was installed in January 1980. After 10 years the church family was going to build a worship facility on the land they had purchased at 1327 Hancock Street. We marched into our new building on the second Sunday in September 1983. Most of the work was done by members assisted by a church architect/contractor. Dr. Thomas E. Fisher was installed as pastor. Under the superb preaching and teaching of Rev. Fisher, we have learned the importance of WORSHIP, PRAYER, STUDY, LOVE, and GIVING. Our worship service is awesome. We have a powerful team of celebration leaders and our service is a high-impact worship. We strive to continue to build as a multicultural and multiracial community of worship, where all are invited to praise The Lord, study His word, and win the world to do the same. Our worship is a celebration for all nations! Join us every Sunday to lift up the name of our Savior!
