Our Tuesday morning work days at Hopkins Wilderness Park are filled with smiles and good vibes. Project Co-Lead Carl plays classical music music and volunteers from all around gather in the shade to tend to our California native trees and shrubs.

This is urban nature bathing at it's finest :) If you'd like to join us, we gather every Tue and every other Sunday in the park.

Also, did you know that we have 11 active restoration sites throughout the South Bay that you can choose from? You can find our calendar of events on the home page of our website at www.southbayparks.org.

Occasionally you may see our volunteers doing something other than weeding, watering and planting!

Just this past Wednesday, volunteers on the Esplanade Bluff, collected seeds from the native plants on the bluffs.

We will use these seeds for our restoration efforts, for example growing plants at our nursery and propagation tables, packing them into seed giveaways and perhaps spreading some back out onto the bluffs in the fall.

The last photo shows the flower to seed pod progression on the Coastal California Poppy.

Thank you for the amazing photos Dan!!!

If you planted a native garden or if you’re walking by areas with CA native plants you may spot some of these butterflies this spring. Look for plants like native Milkweed, Yarrow, Sage, and Coyote Bush among others.
