Communities like Redondo Beach need a State Senator who will stand up for local control and Mike Newhouse is that candidate.

Iโ€™ve had the opportunity to speak with Mike on multiple occasions, and Iโ€™ve been consistently impressed by his commitment to restoring local control. He understands that decisions about our neighborhoods should be made by the people who live hereโ€”not dictated by Sacramento. His perspective and experience make him uniquely qualified to represent the South Bay.

Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™ve endorsed and introduced Mike to local elected officials and why weโ€™re hosting an opportunity for residents to ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—บ ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—”๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—น ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿต๐˜๐—ต ๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ ๐—›๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—น ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ผ ๐—•๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐Ÿฒ๐—ฃ๐— . I encourage you to come, ask questions, and hear directly from him.

Right now, cities like Redondo Beach are facing increasing pressure from state-mandated housing policies driven by outside interests. These one-size-fits-all mandates often ignore the realities on the ground. While they claim to address affordability, they donโ€™t and frequently shift the burden onto local communitiesโ€”straining infrastructure, public safety resources, schools, and emergency services without providing the funding to support them.

Redondo Beach has long carried its share of growth and is already one of the most densely populated coastal cities in California. Yet recent legislation continues to overlook that history, limiting the ability of local communities to shape their own future.

Mike Newhouse brings valuable experience from his time serving two terms on the Los Angeles Planning Commission, where he saw firsthand the consequences of policies that sideline local input. In my role as Chair of the Redondo Beach Planning Commission, Iโ€™ve seen many of those same challenges play out at the local level. Mike understands whatโ€™s at stakeโ€”and heโ€™s ready to advocate for balanced, community-driven solutions.

Itโ€™s time to restore a sense of balance and ensure cities have a meaningful voice in their own development.

I encourage you to learn more about Mike Newhouse and consider supporting him in the upcoming primary election on June 2nd.

Bill Brand dedicated his life to protecting open space, preserving our coast, and ensuring that Redondo Beach remains a community of which we can all be proud. As one of the founders of the South Bay Parkland Conservancy, he championed efforts to transform land into public parks and gathering spaces. Through his own infectious enthusiasm, hundreds of residents joined him in these labors of love.

In 2010, Bill began talks with Edison to turn their land under the power lines off Herondo into a park. Today, that dream is finally becoming a reality. This location is more than just open space โ€” itโ€™s where Mayor Brand made the historic 2023 announcement that the AES power plant was finally being shuttered; his final act of public service, and where his fight against overdevelopment in Redondo Beach began back in 2003.

Now, we have the opportunity to honor his vision, his leadership and his unparalleled service to our community by naming this new park, Bill Brand Park.

Itโ€™s time for the public to weigh in on the new Public Boat Launch project.

We have earned this opportunity as a community after a long battle with outside developers. Those people who were more interested in building a mall and putting the boat ramp in the most dangerous part of the harbor than what residents need or wanted.

Please come down and give your thoughts on the direction YOU want to see happen in OUR harbor at this event scheduled by the City of Redondo Beach.

Date: Tuesday, September 23, 2025
Time: 5:30 p.m to 7:00p.m.
Location: Redondo Beach Public Library, 2nd Floor conference room

303 N Pacific Coast Hwy
Redondo Beach, CA 90277

*We are getting closer to our goal but ROW still needs your help to defend Redondo Beach residents from unscrupulous developers, outside special interests, and crony corruption, and to help build the future you voted for at the ballot box, so please donate below.
