There are moments in a city's history that deserve to be remembered forever.

Tuesday July 28th at 3PM is one of those moments.

Please join us as we dedicate Bill Brand Gateway Park to a man whose love for Redondo Beach changed the course of our city's future.

Bill Brand wasn't motivated by power or politics. He was motivated by a simple belief: our city belongs to its residents, and future generations deserve a community with more open space, cleaner neighborhoods, and a higher quality of life.

His leadership united thousands of residents to protect Redondo Beach from projects that many believed would forever change the character of our community. He fought tirelessly for our coastline, our neighborhoods, and the preservation of open spaceโ€”often at tremendous personal sacrifice.

It's fitting that this park bears his name.

This location marked Bill's final public appearance, celebrating the achievement that first inspired him to enter public service years earlier: the closure of the AES power plant and the vision of transforming blighted or vacant land into something better for everyone.

Today, every park, every preserved view, and every piece of open space reminds us that communities are strongest when people stand together for something greater than themselves.

Open space is more than grass and trees. It creates healthier neighborhoods, strengthens communities, improves property values, and leaves a legacy that benefits generations to come. Bill understood that long before many others did.

On Tuesday, we won't simply be dedicating a park.

We'll be honoring a friend, neighbor, advocate, and one of the greatest public servants Redondo Beach has ever known.

When future generations enter our city and see the sign that reads Bill Brand Gateway Park, they'll know that one personโ€”with determination, integrity, and a deep love for his communityโ€”can make a lasting difference.

Thank you, Bill, for everything you gave to Redondo Beach.

We hope you'll join us Tuesday as we celebrate a legacy that will never be forgotten.

Communities like Redondo Beach need a State Senator who will stand up for local control and Mike Newhouse is that candidate.

Iโ€™ve had the opportunity to speak with Mike on multiple occasions, and Iโ€™ve been consistently impressed by his commitment to restoring local control. He understands that decisions about our neighborhoods should be made by the people who live hereโ€”not dictated by Sacramento. His perspective and experience make him uniquely qualified to represent the South Bay.

Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™ve endorsed and introduced Mike to local elected officials and why weโ€™re hosting an opportunity for residents to ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—บ ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—”๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—น ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿต๐˜๐—ต ๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ ๐—›๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—น ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ผ ๐—•๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐Ÿฒ๐—ฃ๐— . I encourage you to come, ask questions, and hear directly from him.

Right now, cities like Redondo Beach are facing increasing pressure from state-mandated housing policies driven by outside interests. These one-size-fits-all mandates often ignore the realities on the ground. While they claim to address affordability, they donโ€™t and frequently shift the burden onto local communitiesโ€”straining infrastructure, public safety resources, schools, and emergency services without providing the funding to support them.

Redondo Beach has long carried its share of growth and is already one of the most densely populated coastal cities in California. Yet recent legislation continues to overlook that history, limiting the ability of local communities to shape their own future.

Mike Newhouse brings valuable experience from his time serving two terms on the Los Angeles Planning Commission, where he saw firsthand the consequences of policies that sideline local input. In my role as Chair of the Redondo Beach Planning Commission, Iโ€™ve seen many of those same challenges play out at the local level. Mike understands whatโ€™s at stakeโ€”and heโ€™s ready to advocate for balanced, community-driven solutions.

Itโ€™s time to restore a sense of balance and ensure cities have a meaningful voice in their own development.

I encourage you to learn more about Mike Newhouse and consider supporting him in the upcoming primary election on June 2nd.
