EnCorps STEM Teachers EnCorps STEM Teachers invites new teachers, STEM professionals, and interested educators to teach or tutor STEM subjects to Title 1 School students.

EnCorps advocates for STEM educational equity by creating programs that reenforce our mission. The EnCorps STEM Teachers Program empowers science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) professionals to transform public education by teaching in high needs schools.Enduring STEM achievement, access, and literacy gaps disproportionately limit low income, under-resourced, and minority student opportunities. STEM professionals, when thoroughly prepared, are uniquely positioned to meaningfully utilize their talent and real-world expertise as EnCorps STEM Teachers to deliver an authentic, rigorous, and relevant STEM education to the students who need it most. EnCorps is an innovative, long-term solution to the shortage of high quality, impactful educators for under-resourced students in high needs schools.

LaTeira Haynes Zavala, Ph.D., earned her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences, and along the way, she discovered she loved teaching.

Now an EnCorps Fellow alum, she teaches science and biotechnology at King/Drew Medical Magnet High School in the Los Angeles Unified School District. A first-generation college student, she wants more students to pursue science and take on the questions that matter to their communities.

We’re excited to share that Angel Beamer, EnCorps Executive Director, will be speaking at the 2026 AAEE National Conf in KCMO during Oct. 19-21!

Persistent shortages in middle and high school STEM and CTE roles call for a more connected approach to teacher recruitment, support, and retention.
At the 2026 AAEE Conference, Angel Beamer, Executive Director of EnCorps STEM Teachers Program, will share how structured exploration, onboarding, mentoring, and communities of practice can help STEM professionals transition into teaching and persist in hard-to-fill roles.

This session will offer PK-12 recruitment and retention leaders practical design considerations for aligning workforce strategies with local context, equity goals, and the social-emotional needs of new teachers.

Thank you to Beyond100K for bringing CoLab Project teams together in Austin, TX! 🙌

These opportunities to step away from the day-to-day and collaborate in-person are invaluable for building relationships, sharing ideas, and learning from partners across the country.

Carolyn Fernandez and Courtney V. were proud to represent EnCorps as part of the Dream to Teach CoLab, connecting with school partners from across the country to explore how we can strengthen pathways into teaching for STEM professionals.

It was also inspiring to connect with fellow CoLab teams advancing other critical priorities, including Early Math Innovators, Classrooms of Belonging, and Teacher Work Environment.

Grateful to Beyond100K for creating the space to learn, collaborate, and turn bold ideas into action.

Meet Andy Imm, a 2020 EnCorps Fellow with 26 years of teaching experience under his belt. This year, Andy is taking on something brand new: his first year teaching Engineering 1 and 2 to freshmen and sophomores at McClymonds High School.

🎉 Congratulations to Hugo Marrochio, a 2026B EnCorps Fellow, on the start of his teaching career. This fall, Hugo begins his first year at El Cerrito High School, teaching Physics of the Universe to ninth graders.

Hugo shares that he’s excited about the community at El Cerrito and looks forward to sharing his passion for science with his students. Like every new teacher, he’s working through the countless small details of the job, but he’s ready to get started and put things in motion.
