Hood’s phlox (Phlox hoodii) out by Ashwood 🙂

We love this early season bloomer and its’ showstopper displays in the rockiest of substrates.

Sagebrush and grassland communities of the Trout and Willow Creek watersheds provide excellent habitat for phlox. Be sure to look for phlox on the Crooked River National Grassland!

Our first field trips of the season on the Metolius River were a success! We learned all about springs, macros, and habitat restoration!

Wildlife seen 👀:
- Otter
- Osprey
- Belted kingfisher
- Red-tailed hawk
- Northern flicker
- Canada goose
- Common merganser
- Steller’s jay
- and lots of elk s**t!
