Badshahi mosque is one of the few significant architectural monuments built during Emperor Aurangzeb's long rule from 1658 to 1707. It is presently the fifth largest mosque in the world. Although it was built late in the Mughal era in a period of relative decline, its beauty, elegance, and scale epitomize Mughal cultural achievement like no other monument in Lahore.

“Being in the flow of creation and realizing that my art is actually making a difference for some people are two aspects I really enjoy."

Soufeina Hamed, a talented Tunisian-German artist, has taken up illustrating the daily lives of Muslims inspired by experiences and occurrences in her own life. Her goal is to portray her community as ordinary, just like the rest of society, and to compare the similarities to the lives of the Western world. She thoroughly enjoys her work as a comic artist and is a creative inspiration to many.

Why do certain things speak to us? Places, people, images, experiences the list goes on. What makes something so memorable you feel the need to recreate it, or post a photo with a "take me back" caption.

Take a look at Sharon Kopriva's "Islamic Shrine", to view this piece in person is to almost hear the echoes of the painting calling out. Notice where the artist has drawn your eyes. Would you remember this place forever? Or give it no stars as your travel rating.

Travel is a beautiful thing, but sometimes the things that stick with us the most can transport us further than any vehicle. Where can art transport you today?

"Islamic Shrine" is currently on view as part of our exhibit, "Artists Who Think in Two and Three Dimensions: Selections from the Permanent Collection"

Eid al-Adha begins July 8 and ends July 9. It is the second and one of the most important holidays celebrated in Islam. The observance honors the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as an act of obedience to Allah’s command. Muslims celebrate the holiday by exchanging greetings and gifts, as well as offering special prayers to Allah.
