Happy National Donut Day! 🍩🚔

Ever wonder why cops are associated with donuts (besides the fact they’re delicious)? Back in the 1940s and 1950s, donut shops were some of the only places open all night. Officers would stop in to use the phone, write reports, grab a cup of coffee, and catch a quick break during the late-night shift.

At 2 a.m., it wasn’t unusual to drive by a donut shop and see a patrol car or two parked out front. Donuts were also the perfect snack for busy officers on patrol — easy to eat in the car and always available during long nights. And, of course, donut shop owners appreciated having officers nearby to help discourage late-night troublemakers from stopping in.

Today, we celebrate the sweet treat that became part of police culture and continues to bring smiles to shifts everywhere. Stay safe, enjoy a donut, and support your local donut shop today! 🍩☕
