Pumpkin Patch for Food Bank Farm

Pumpkin Patch for Food Bank Farm Follow the progress of the Pumpkin Patch for Food Bank Farm year round. From Seed to Harvest to Fun! Hi, I am a Pumpkin Patch.

I bring joy to children and the inner child of adults. I show up on the front lawn of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, Redmond, WA, in mid October. This page is all about how our pumpkins grow in the spectacular Snohomish River Valley at Food Bank Farm.

Ornamental corn is harvested and drying for the Pumpkin Patch

Thanks to the littles from Bellevue Christian School Mack Elementary for harvesting the Painted Mountain Corn. At first they balked at the prospect of "spiders", but soon they were enthusiastically rummaging through the corn plot like little locusts. Amazingly they harvested about a ton of corn from this small plot.

Then came the work. Knowing that vermin would want to eat this corn, we had no rat or bird proof place on the farm where we could store and dry the corn. So we loaded all into Carl's truck and trailer and hauled it to the church where we set it up, some in my office, some in the parish hall, with fans to dry it.

The pumpkin patch is planted! It is a glorious mix of sizes and colors, and warts and wings, of 3,500 gourds and pumpkins, with perfect weather and field conditions. Here we go!

Thanks to volunteers from Symmetra, who transplanted this very tidy patch of Painted Mountain ornamental corn, and thanks to Bob Ricci of Bob's Corn Maze and Pumpkin Farm for laying down the fertilizer strips with his precision corn planter.
