💚 May is Foster Care Awareness Month! 💚

Central Oregon needs new community members to step up and say yes to supporting local youth impacted by foster care. And the good news is there is a way for everyone to get involved! From fostering, to purchasing a needed tangible item, volunteering, providing respite care, to donating financially- everyone has the power to make a difference!

💡 May is Foster Care Awareness Month, and we wanted to share 4 common misconceptions we hear all the time. This post is a little longer, but we hope you’ll take a moment to read and maybe learn something new. 💚

🌟 Have questions about foster care or heard something you’re not sure is true? Send it our way and we’ll do our best to help.
1. You have to be married to provide foster care
Not true. Foster resource providers can be single, married, or partnered.
2. You have to own a home
Also not true. Many providers live in apartments or townhomes. What matters is having adequate space, not homeownership.
3. People only provide foster care for the money
Providers do receive a monthly stipend, but it is typically not enough to fully cover the cost of caring for a youth.
4. Providers have to be perfect
Definitely not. Foster providers are everyday people. They are not expected to have perfect lives, and lived experience with hardship can often help them connect more deeply with youth.

👶🏻 We have been busy out in the community delivering tens of thousands of diapers to children and families participating in Early Head Start and Head Start programs alongside our partner NeighborImpact.

Diapers are a basic need that play a big role in supporting the health, comfort, and well-being of young children. They also help ease financial pressure for families, creating a little more room in the budget for other essentials like food, housing, and everyday stability. We are grateful to help deliver this kind of practical, meaningful support to families in our community, one diaper at a time! 💚
