The High Horse Trail gets attention! Work continues in the Ochocos on the Corral Flat signing project. Kim led a large work party recently that divided into two groups to get even more done. The beauty of this area shines through in the photos. Volunteers included Mona, Laurie, Cindy, Kate, Cathy, Gayla, Kishiko, and Emma. Photos courtesy of Kim, Kishiko, and Emma.

Were you one of the 75 riders participating in the OET Poker Ride on Saturday? If so, please share your favorite photo in the comments. This year's Poker Ride was the biggest one yet! Thank you to Brenda Hanson-Coats for organizing the event this year with lots of help from volunteers. Pictured are the riders who helped hang way finding ribbons on the trail. Funds raised during this event support our mission to keep horse trails open and cleared so you can all enjoy them for years to come! A big thank you to the wonderful organizations and individuals who helped sponsor this event, as shown.

How would your horse do in a parade? These folks were practicing by riding through downtown Tumalo last weekend. The practice helped them prepare to ride in the Sisters Rodeo Parade as part of the contingent representing OET's Central Oregon Chapter. 🤠

Parade Ready! Cathy Springman held two pre-parade practices this past weekend - on Friday in Redmond, and on Sunday riding through Tumalo. The volunteers on foot who helped with traffic control, p**p scooping, and driving the lead vehicle were much appreciated! On Sunday riders enjoyed social time afterwards at The Bite. These practices gave OET members the opportunity to prepare their horses for participation in the Sisters Rodeo Parade representing the Central Oregon Chapter of Oregon Equestrian Trails.

The Parade begins at 9:30 am on Saturday, June 13 in Downtown Sisters. Join in or come to cheer on our Chapter!

It isn’t too late to join us in the parade! We still need walkers to carry the OET banner and two p**per scoopers. You can also walk or ride your horse. For more information, contact Cathy Springman at [email protected] or 206-910-6410.

Gorgeous scenery and equine and rider camaradarie marked this recent Campout and Work Party in the Ochocos. Volunteers installed diamonds on six miles of the Skeeter and High Horse trails near Walton Lake. Liz, Betsey, Candace, Kate, and Lydia joined Kim in this fun and productive work “party!” Even some wild horses joined in at camp! Photos contributed by Kim and Candace.

Straight from the Horse’s Mouth! Today we’re featuring the horses that helped our volunteers finish all the signing in the Ochocos earlier this week. Laurie is mounted on Blazer, Mona on Roi, Kishiko on Mikado, Sue on Bella, and Kim on Foxie. These beautiful, well trained, and patient (but spirited) equines help us get out on the trails to perform maintenance and add signage. Most of all they make the work fun and worthwhile! Now all of the Mustang Loop and the Duncan Trail are fully signed. It’s a great time of year to take your equine partner up to the Ochocos!

Meet the Author! Rhonda Marquis, who rode the Pacific Crest Trail in 2015, recounts her many exploits as the featured speaker at our next meeting on June 2. Her new book, “Riding the Pacific Crest Trail: A Journey to Remember,” just came out, and boy is it a humdinger! Most of Rhonda’s ride was done solo, supported all along the way by her husband, Pat, and faithful dog Tucker. As one reader said, “The only reason I got through some of the chapters was to know she was still alive!” Don’t miss this meeting if you are interested in adventuring on horseback! Bring your copy of the book for signing if you like. Link to book purchase: https://tinyurl.com/4un48dxn

George nails up one last white diamond for the day, marking one of the trails in the newly planned STAR trail system. George is partner to one of our newest members, Sue, and we are delighted to welcome them to the Central Oregon chapter, and appreciate their enthusiasm. This work party is just one of the many to come that Pat Marquis is organizing as the project to expand, maintain, and mark this trail system continues. All members are welcome to join in as the work progresses!
