Alimentando al Pueblo is a Burien based organization that cultivates healing through comunidad, comida and celebración (community, food, and celebration).

The organization was founded during the COVID-19 pandemic in response to the disproportionate impact that was felt by the Latino community in South King County. Their most well known program - culturally relevant food distribution - has served over 1100 families since 2020. The community and celebration programs promote connection, cultural preservation and joy for Latino youth and community members.

Alimentando al Pueblo is working to embody their values within their organization structure. They believe that sustainability will only happen through shared leadership and so they are creating a horizontal leadership structure. They are empowering stakeholders at all levels of the organization to take ownership of shared goals and learn from each other.

Alimentando al Pueblo was a recipient of SYL Foundation’s Community-Led Grant program in 2024. The program awards unrestricted funds to organizations that are nominated by our grantees. The awards provide much needed funding to small, grassroots organizations who may be overlooked by traditional funding sources. We are proud to support and to share the word about this amazing organization!

Sheng-Yen Lu Foundation Statement on Violence Committed by Federal Agents

It is hard to find the right words when witnessing the current state-sponsored violence perpetrated against individuals by the U.S. government. The laws of this country and the norms of decency are ignored as children, mothers, nurses, and law-abiding, contributing members of our communities are harmed, killed, and separated from loved ones by the powers of a government that should be acting to protect us. We vehemently condemn the inhumane and racist violence of ICE’s actions in Minneapolis and in our own Washington state.

Standing up against this horrific violence are the tens of thousands of brave Minnesotans and others who steadfastly love and defend their neighbors. They are an inspiration for us all and a model of true American values. While we may not always have the right words, their heroic examples remind us that we cannot stay silent. SYL Foundation is committed to building a multi-racial democracy that welcomes the gifts and strengths that immigrants bring to our nation. We will work to defend the rights, safety, and dignity of all immigrants and refugees.

SYL Foundation will be making a donation to the Immigrant Rapid Response Fund in Minnesota, and we invite you to join us in raising our voices in support of justice and freedom for the immigrant communities in Minnesota and beyond. http://bit.ly/IRRFund
