🥎 250TH SOFTBALL SHOWDOWN: POLICE vs. FIRE 🚒

Redlands, we’re bringing the rivalry to the ballpark! Redlands Police Officers will take on the Redlands Firefighters in a special softball showdown by celebrating America’s 250th Birthday and the community is invited.

⏰ 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
📍 Coyazo Park – New Redlands Sports Park

Come watch your local police officers and firefighters compete for 250th Softball Showdown bragging rights! Expect a fun, competitive game and plenty of friendly rivalry between two of Redlands’ public safety teams. The game is part of Redlands Family Fun Day, hosted by the Redlands Sunrise Rotary Club, with food, music, a kids zone, and a patriotic celebration throughout the event.

Redlands Police Officers Foundation (RPOF) President Jeff Frisch and Secretary Eric Strobaugh shared the history of their charitable organization and their years of involvement. Began in 2009, RPOF supports fallen and seriously injured officers & families and also assists the local community through outreach, scholarships, and volunteerism. Annual events include Thanksgiving Tuesday, Stuff A Plane Toy Drive, Bats & Badges Baseball Game, High School sports support, Blue Christmas Holiday Giving, and the BBQ Trailer outreach. The Foundation also partners annually with multiple other charitable local nonprofits.

IN MEMORIAM—SHAWN RYAN

A memorial service for former Sunrise Rotary member and Redlands Police Department Commander Shawn Ryan will be held at 12 noon on Friday, August 21 at the Redlands United Church of Christ, 168 Bellevue Avenue, Redlands.
A reception and light lunch to follow in the Mary Sanchez Room at the Redlands Community Center, 111 W. Lugonia Avenue.
Blue attire suggested.

Member Rich Stachowski shared snippets of his life story at our evening meeting, including growing up in Burbank, title company employment, marketing & selling hairigamis, and exclusive high end party planning in the Santa Cruz area.
He recounted his stellar football career as a SoCal high school All-Star, Cal Golden Bear, and NFL player for the Denver Broncos playing with John Elway.
Fun fact—he was a participant in the classic 1982 Cal/Stanford rivalry game which ended with “The Play.” With Cal leading 19-17 late in the 4th quarter, Stanford quarterback John Elway led led his team to a field goal and a 1 point lead with 4 seconds left in the game.

It was a true honor to celebrate Meghan’s induction into the Redlands Sunrise Rotary family. WE’RE # 1–
Newly minted District 5330 Governor Richard Lemire attended both our evening and morning meetings— his first Club visitation as he begins his year of leadership. He shared stories of his long Rotary journey, past & present mentors, new and older local & international projects, upcoming District 5330 events, trainings & initiatives, and the force for Good that Rotary manifests in the world.
Richard also inducted his first new Rotarian as District Governor— Meghan McCann of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside.

Poignant and comic stories of the beginning, changing, and unchanging aspects of the Club, the city, & Rotary including the varied meeting locations, the profound positive effects of women members, and the amazing continuity of stellar community service minded Club leadership through the decades.
