Shasta County Chemical People, Partners for a Drug-Free Community is a non-profit, youth and adult led organization, which promotes and supports the development of a safe, strong community for youth and families free from racism, violence, alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse. Located in Redding, California, midway between the Oregon border and Sacramento via I-5, the Shasta County Chemical People have been working with youth to maintain drug-free lifestyles since 1983. All of our programs are funded through local, state and federal grants, public companies and private citizens. The organization received its 501 (c) 3 status in 1989 and is governed by a board of directors. Starting out as an all volunteer agency, the company now employs four full-time and one part-time employees. We are always looking for volunteers to assist with the numerous events we sponsor and organize throughout the year. Our office hours are from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday thru Friday and we are located at 2515 Park Marina Drive in Redding. Please call ahead if you wish to stop by and see us.

🇨🇦 Canada legalized ma*****na with a promise to protect youth. A new 2026 study raises a serious warning about how that promise has played out.

Researchers in BMC Public Health report that cannabis use has increased across age groups since legalization, with particular concern for youth and young adults ages 16–24. Youth, parents, and service providers called for less access and availability, stronger public education, better treatment services, more family support, and less normalization of cannabis use.

Texas still has a choice. We do not have to repeat the mistakes of jurisdictions that allowed commercial interests to outpace public health protections.

Texas should learn from Canada and put children, families, mental health, and public safety before THC industry profits.
