North Valley Art League Carter House Gallery Our home is the Carter House Gallery in Redding, CA. Free Admission. Artistic learning, sharing and growth is fostered through our many programs.

North Valley Art League is an all volunteer, non-profit community of artists whose mission is to support artists and the visual arts in our community and the California North State. Carter House Gallery provides an attractive, nurturing environment for many talented, experienced artists, as well as emerging new artists. Founded in 1979 by a group of eight local artists, the North Valley Art League

now boasts a membership of over 250. The League hosts monthly member shows, featured artists shows and juried shows (open members and non-members). The Carter House gallery is adjacent to major recreational sites including the Sacramento River Trail, Turtle Bay Museum and Exploration Park, Botanical Gardens, and the Sundial Bridge. In this class, Mel will demonstrate a variety of techniques to create interesting textures and moods. Perspective and composition will also be discussed and students will be guided in painting a variety of subjects. All levels welcome!

Join us on June 9 at 6:30 pm at St. James Church, 2500 Shasta View, Redding to celebrate 25 years of the Shasta Photo Club! We will have lots of great photography to share with our Scavenger Hunt, our "Path or Trails" monthly challenge, and a member share from Mike Andrews about astrophotography with his Dwarf 3 smart telescope. We will also have special refreshments provided by the club. Along the way we will take care of a little business too with Board Elections for our 2026-27 membership year and the kick-off of our membership renewal period. Dues are still $30 per year or $45 per couple.Hope to see everyone there!

Mel Jackson Beginning - Intermediate Watercolor Class
Join Mel Jackson for a 10-week class on beginning through intermediate watercolor. Class will be each Tuesdays 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., starting June 23 and ending August 25.

Mel is a graduate of the California College of the Arts and has taught beginning watercolor classes in the Redding area for many years. His works have been exhibited throughout the North State and he is known for his thoughtful, conceptual approach to art.

You may bring your own materials or purchase them from Mel. If you need materials, please contact us ([email protected]) before the class.

Join us in celebrating acclaimed artist Derek Grinnell at his Retrospective Exhibition.

Born and educated in London, England, Derek has spent a lifetime as a professional illustrator and fine art painter, earning national and international recognition for his work. His distinctive use of pen and ink, watercolor, gouache, and mixed media has resulted in a remarkable body of work spanning decades and is held in collections throughout the world.

This special retrospective offers a unique opportunity to experience the breadth of Derek’s artistic journey and hear firsthand about his career during an artist talk.

We are honored to feature Derek Grinnell and invite you to join us for this inspiring exhibition and presentation.
