Since 1984 Youth & Family Programs has been providing a supportive, safe, and stable environment for foster families and foster children.

Youth and Family Programs was established in 1984. We work with children age infant to 21 years old who have been detained by Butte and Shasta County. We also offer Transitional Housing and the Independent Living Program for our youth in extended foster care. There are over 58,000 children in the foster care system in California. Foster care provides a stable environment that assures a child's safety and well-being while their parents attempt to resolve the issues that lead to the out-of-home placement. Anyone who is safe, stable, adult, married, or single with room in their hearts and home for children in need can become a foster parent. You must be willing to be responsible for the care of a foster child, be willing to become a part of our team, and be able to meet the Community Care Licensing requirements.

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀

In foster care, we spend so much of our time caring for others—supporting children, strengthening families, showing up for one another, and helping our communities thrive. This October, we want to remind our resource parents, biological families, staff, partners, and community members that taking care of YOU matters too. 💗

Breast cancer affects millions of individuals and families around the world, and while it is much more common in women, men can be diagnosed too.

💕 Know the signs.
💕 Keep up with recommended screenings.
💕 Encourage the people you love to take care of their health.
💕 Support those who are fighting, honor those we have lost, and celebrate survivors.

Our foster care community is built around caring for others. This month, make sure you are extending some of that same care to yourself.

At Youth & Family Programs, we believe every young person in foster care deserves to feel remembered, supported, and celebrated—especially during the holidays.

Each year, our agency helps make sure that youth in foster care have the opportunity to receive a bicycle for Christmas through Bikes for Kids. For many of our youth, receiving a bike is so much more than receiving a Christmas present. It’s a chance to experience the excitement, independence, and simple joy that comes with having a bike of their very own. 🚲🎄

That’s why we are proud to be involved with the Bikes for Kids Car Show. By helping with the car show and spreading the word, we hope to bring our community together to support this incredible tradition and help Bikes for Kids continue reaching local children and youth.
We are incredibly thankful for the businesses, community members, car enthusiasts, volunteers, organizers, and sponsors who have stepped up to support this event. Your involvement directly helps create special Christmas memories for youth in our community.
When our community comes together, we can make sure youth in care know they are valued and that their community is behind them. ❤️

One of the most important lessons I've learned is this:
If you're thinking about becoming a foster parent, go all in.

🎁🚴 A Car Show That Changes Lives 🚴🎁

Did you know that for the past 22 years, our community has come together to provide new bikes to children who might otherwise go without on Christmas morning?

Join us on October 18th from 12 PM - 3 PM for a special car show benefiting foster youth. Every dollar raised will go directly toward the annual Bikes for Kids event hosted by Ted and Youth & Family Programs, Budget Blinds, and Dills Deli.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, nearly 8,000 bikes have been given to children over the years. Together, we can continue this amazing tradition and help create lasting memories for youth in foster care and other children in need.

Bring your family, admire some incredible cars, and support a cause that truly makes a difference.

Today, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible child welfare workers who show up every single day for children, youth, and families in our communities.

Your work requires compassion, patience, dedication, and the willingness to navigate some of life’s most difficult circumstances. We see the long days, the challenging conversations, the advocacy, the problem-solving, and the countless things you do behind the scenes to support families and keep children safe.

In our world, open and consistent communication between families, child welfare workers, foster families, service providers, and community agencies is so important. When we communicate, collaborate, and work together, we create stronger support systems for the children and families we all serve.
