"Ramstrom has drawn the ire of many who have protested mask mandates, vaccination requirements and other safety measures due to the 2020-22 coronavirus pandemic, and those protesters have found a sympathetic ear in Baugh and Jones.

The city of Redding and Shasta County Public Health hosted a COVID-19 vaccine clinic behind City Hall on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021. Both the single-dose Johnson & Johnson and first-dose Pfizer vaccines were available.

“Flee now, while you can,” one man told Shasta County’s supervisors at a public board meeting Pogue attended in Redding last year.

The local citizen was not joking. The board, after all, had refused to join other nearby counties in adopting a State of Jefferson resolution.

The man added:

“When the ballot box is gone, there is only the cartridge box. You have made bullets expensive. But luckily for you, ropes are reusable.”
