Kelly Moravec Academic Encouragement Scholarship Endowment Fund Part of Shasta Regional Community Foundation. Supports students to further their education beyond high school after facing medical challenges in life.

This program was founded in honor of a young man who despite huge battles with medical tragedies, kept true to his academic goals and dreams. He continued to prosper and preservere by surrounding himself with the necessary support of the individuals who would not let him lose heart. He found that continuing to learn and grow was one thing he COULD make his own choice about. Achieving in school kept him connecting to a very important aspect of life called HOPE.

Scholarship Selection Committee is formed and supplied with this year's applications. We'll be reading, contemplating, and using the scoring systems to make our selections by the end of April. What amazing young people and inspiring autobiographies they have shared! We're celebrating 10 years of remembering Kelly's unfulfilled wish to complete college and live on. His 30th birthday would have been this year on April 14th coming up next month. He's frozen forever at 19 years old and will keep us smiling with memories of his irreverent humor and outward stubbornness that he used to cover up a very tender hearted soul. He lives on in us. If you wish to help keep his legacy going & growing, please consider contacting Shasta Regional Community Foundation via their website and donate a "happy 30th" gift to his endowment fund. Can't wait to announce about this year's scholarship recipients in a month or so. Stay tuned............ and "Live Well, with courage and hope.....because you CAN!"

We awards to be given out this year, all still secret! :) $1000, 4500 and $500 going out in the next 4 weeks. Remembering Kelly, remembering courage!

Applications completed and review & scoring process for this year has begun TODAY. Thank you to the volunteers who committed to being on the Scholarship Selection Committee. Their application essays are inspirational! We will finalize our selections for awards about mid to late April and present the award or award(s) at graduation award events. "Living WELL, just because they can!"

Wow, applications pouring in for this year's awards from what the coordinator at SCRF told us today. Deadline is early March. It may be a really tough year to score, vote, & choose. One year we had seven qualified applicants and 4 of those seven were the Valedictorians of their classes. Surviving and persevering through medical adversity has a hidden gift of creating high caliber young people!

2015-16 Scholarship Selection Committee members and paperwork process finally completed and ready to turn into the SRCF office this week. I hear there are several quality applicants already working on their submissions off the application website system. Looking forward to reading how they are "Living WELL, just because they can!" Thoughts of Kelly and his love for the Winter Holidays and weather continue on.......
