Shasta Food Group is a consortium of food cooperatives, pantry's, government agencies, Grow Local, churches, and members of the community. We are working to ensure all people in Shasta County have enough nutritious food to eat every day. Through education, advocacy, and redistribution of resources, The Shasta Food Group provided more than 185,000 bags of emergency food to local families last year. Shasta Food Group focuses on Plant A Row For The Hungry (PAR), a community-wide effort that encourages gardeners to grow a little extra and donate produce to local food security agencies. Many of our clients are engaged with the process, tending to community gardens and being part of solution. Shasta Food Group also has a gleaning program. We have a team of gleaners that harvest unused produce from local farms, fields, and yards. More produce than you can imagine falls to the ground and rots every year. Gleaning can eliminate waste and put nutritious food on someones table. We believe together, with your help, we can end food insecurity in Shasta County. For more information on how you can help, message us or call 530-6051091.

PAR...Plant a row for the hungry. Launched in 1995, Plant A Row is a public service program of the Garden Writers Association and the GWA Foundation. Garden writers are asked to encourage their readers/listeners to plant an extra row of produce each year and donate their surplus to local food banks, soup kitchens and service organizations to help feed America’s hungry.

There are over 84 million households with a yard or garden in the U.S. If every gardener plants one extra row of vegetables and donates their surplus to local food agencies and soup kitchens, a significant impact can be made on reducing hunger.
