Shasta Head Start Shasta Head Start provides high quality early care and education for children prenatal to age 5 years in Shasta, Siskiyou, and Trinity counties.

Shasta Head Start takes pride in our holistic approach to service delivery which provides a foundation for children's early learning, and in building self sufficiency and lifelong independence within families. Individual learning plans for each child, training and parenting opportunities and individualized health and nutrition plans create an opportunity for a cohesive partnership and a "Strong Start in Life".

Shasta Lake Head Start got the pleasure to have two amazing volunteers this year. Lilyona and Hannah. Both local Central Valley seniors that completed the ROP: Careers with Children program this year. They spent the last 6 months getting hands on experience in the classroom several times a week, while also balancing their own classes and schoolwork.

Lilyona and Hannah came in every day with positive attitudes, caring hearts, and a genuine desire to learn and grow within the field of Early Childhood Education. Their willingness to jump in, ask questions, push themselves out of their comfort zone, and continue developing their skills has been truly inspiring. It has been such a joy watching these students grow throughout their time with us.

We are so grateful for the time, energy, and love they shared with our program and cannot wait to see all the amazing things they accomplish in the future. Thank you for being part of the Shasta Lake Head Start team!

Family Involvement is so important to a child's development and over all well-being. Here at Shasta Head Start, we work with our families to get them involved as much as possible!

Over at Anderson Park, two moms came into the classroom to help our little's make homemade tortillas and quesadillas!! The children got to experience what is was like to use a tortilla press. Plus, our Bilingual Specialist, Betty, made the kids homemade salsa and pickled onions!!

They absolutely loved this experience!

Some children seem to need constant physical activity, like bouncing or crashing into things. When they do these behaviors and can’t seem to turn them off, they aren’t misbehaving. Instead, they’re trying to calm their nervous system.
