Ready for Life Host Homes

Ready for Life Host Homes Partner with Ready for Life Host Homes to bring an end to youth homelessness in Shasta County and the surrounding areas. What Is Host Homes?

Short-term host homes are an intervention for youth who are currently experiencing homelessness for any variety of reasons, including but not limited to family conflict, poverty, gender identity and sexual orientation. The goal of short-term host homes is to provide a safe, temporary, welcoming space for up to six months where the young person has time to repair their relationships with self-ident

ified family or make decisions about other housing options with the support of a caring housing case manager. The Host Homes Program is an innovative, grassroots approach to addressing our community’s homelessness crisis. By pairing transition-aged youth (ages 18-24) with community members who have underutilized spaces in their homes, youth not only obtain access to short-term shelter, but are also able to build meaningful connections to caring adults in their community. While staying in host homes, youth guests are able to engage in the long-term housing search safely and more successfully and save any income earned while being hosted toward their future.

623 pairs of socks. 💙

That’s 623 moments of warmth, comfort, and care for youth in our community.

Grayson, a local 5th grader, saw a need and took action—launching his service project “Scouting for Socks” to collect socks for youth experiencing homelessness. Through his leadership and compassion, he not only made a real impact, but also earned his Citizenship badge.

We are so grateful for his heart and initiative!

A special thank you as well to Signarama Redding for donating signage for his collection box, and Pizza Factory Shasta Lake for hosting a donation site and supporting this effort.

This is what community looks like. 👏

🧦💛 Community Spotlight 💛🧦

We want to give a HUGE thank you to Grayson, a 5th grade student here in Shasta County, for choosing to support our Host Homes program through his service project!

Grayson is a member of Cub Scouts Pack 359 and is collecting socks to earn his Citizenship badge, and we are so grateful he chose to help youth in our program.

Socks are one of the most needed everyday essentials for the young people we serve. What may seem like a small item can make a big difference in comfort, dignity, and care.

Grayson, thank you for showing leadership, compassion, and a heart for your community. We are proud of you and so thankful for your support! 👏💙

If you’d like to join Grayson in supporting our Host Homes program, message us to learn how you can help.

Homelessness compounds hardship.

Compared to their peers, students who have experienced homelessness report:

72% food insecurity
48% likely major depressive disorder
39% working 40+ hours per week
27% missing class due to unreliable transportation
90% financial difficulties

Yet only 21% self-identify as homeless.

When homelessness is hidden, it is underestimated.
When it is underestimated, it is under-addressed.

The data show why persistence gaps remain.

Something simple can make a big difference. 🧦

Our Host Homes program is currently in need of new socks for youth ages 18–24. Clean, comfortable socks are one of the most requested, and most needed, items for young people transitioning out of homelessness.

For many of the youth we serve, basic essentials aren’t always guaranteed. A small donation like a pack of socks can mean warmth, dignity, and care.

If you’d like to help:

✔ New socks only (all genders)
✔ Sizes adult S–XL
✔ Drop off at: Host Homes Resource Center (962 Maraglia St. Redding, 96002)
✔ Or message us for more info

Want to go a step further? Share this post so others can help meet this need.

✨ First Annual Youth Point-in-Time Event ✨

Last Friday, we were honored to host our first-ever Youth Point-in-Time (PIT) event at Ready for Life, and what an incredible afternoon it was.

We welcomed four community partner organizations, amazing volunteers from the Shasta County Homeless Youth Alliance , and most importantly, 13 youth who came through our doors to access resources, enjoy a delicious meal, and make meaningful connections.

Events like this are about more than numbers- they’re about visibility, dignity, and meeting youth where they are. We’re proud to be part of an effort to better understand and support youth experiencing homelessness in Shasta County, and we’re excited to continue this work in the years to come.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, served, and helped make this event such a success. Together, we’re building a stronger, more responsive community for our youth. 💙

🎄💛 Thank You, Community Alliance Network! 💛🎄

We are incredibly grateful to the Community Alliance Network of Redding for their generous donation of Christmas gifts and non-perishable food items for our Resource Center. Because of your kindness, children, youth, and families in our community will have extra support, comfort, and joy this holiday season.

Your generosity helps ensure that basic needs are met while also reminding those we serve that they are seen, cared for, and supported.

Thank you for partnering with Ready for Life and for making a meaningful difference in the lives of local youth and families.

🎥 Jay & Aria Take Over the Bell (and the Camera!)

Today we’re sharing a fun message from Jay and Aria, two youth in our Host Homes program who wanted to tell you- in their own way- why Ready for Life matters. If you know Jay, you won’t be surprised that he kicked things off by ringing our office bell (as always).

Their stories highlight how supportive housing and connection can make a real difference for young people in Shasta County.

If you’d like to help us continue offering programs like Host Homes, we’d love your support today.

Thanks for cheering on our youth and the work we do!

There are so many ways to give- and today, on Giving Tuesday, we want to highlight one of our community partners who gives generously all year long.

A huge thank-you to the Shasta County Lions Cyber Club for another amazing donation of food boxes for the youth in our Host Homes program. Your continued support helps ensure that young people experiencing homelessness have access to nourishment, stability, and care.

Whether you give by donating items, sharing your time, offering housing, or supporting financially, every act of kindness moves our mission forward. Thank you for showing up for our youth and for believing in what’s possible when a community comes together.

💛 Happy Giving Tuesday!

As we prepare for Thanksgiving, we’re taking time to reflect on all the things we’re grateful for- and this community is at the top of the list. 🧡

Our Host Homes Friendsgiving was such a special night, and we want to share our gratitude with everyone who made it possible.

A huge thank you to the incredible group from Risen King who reached out looking for a way to give back, and ended up providing everything- the food, the decorations, transportation support, and even staying to share the meal with us. Your kindness created a warm, welcoming space that truly felt like family.

To our youth: thank you for showing up, for trusting us with your stories, and for allowing Ready for Life to be a place where you feel safe, valued, and at home. You are the heart of this program, and we’re honored to walk alongside you.

Community, connection, and belonging - that’s what Friendsgiving is all about. 🧡
