Join Master Gardeners in two garden workshops to get ready for spring planting and other gardening activities!

Gardening Basics
February 10 | 10:30am-1pm
Shasta College Farm, Bldg 4000 & Greenhouses
Workshop topics will cover gardening in containers, seed starting basics, seed selection and when to start seeds for your growing zone, House Plants 101, growing succulents, repotting and rejuvenation of house plants, and Hügelkultur beds.
There will be on-site soil analysis for soil samples. House Plants 101 will feature a cuttings swap. Bring healthy cuttings in a plastic bag or placed in water to participate.

Readying Your Garden
March 9 | 10:30am-1pm
Shasta Public Libraries Redding Library, Community Room & Outside Patio
Workshop topics will cover basic permaculture principles, organic bed preparation for an amazing harvest, companion planting, hardening off and transplanting, how to start composting and composting demonstration, and setting up irrigation for a successful growing season.

Both workshops will have three sessions of classes that last about 40 minutes each, and participants will be able to select topics for each session. There is a $5 charge to cover materials and seeds at each workshop.

Master Gardeners are sponsoring a Garden Starts Co-Op after each workshop. Participants swap seeds or plant starts they have in abundance for plants/seeds that they need. For those without seeds/plants to swap, Master Gardeners will also have some seeds to share with participants, and the Redding Library will have seeds available from the seed library.

This is a joint effort with the University of California, Shasta Public Libraries, and the Shasta Seed Library. This project was supported in whole or in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.

Sometimes one person changes everything! For young people in foster care, that person is a CASA volunteer. Children with a CASA are more likely to experience an increased feeling of well-being, even during difficult times. Curious about CASA? We're happy to answer your questions.

We have a virtual training class starting March 6th and we'd love to have you join us! For more information and to fill out a volunteer application, please visit our website: https://nvcss.org/casa/
