Some days, the work we do is heavy. Helping someone navigate through a crisis takes compassion, strength, and a whole lot of heart. ❤️
That’s why taking a moment to laugh, have some fun, and find a little joy when we can is so important.

👕 Did you know The Next Step Community Resource Center has a FREE clothing closet?

Community members who are in need can stop in and choose clothing at no cost. We have a variety of gently used clothing, new socks, and new underwear, available for adults and families.

Your donations make this possible! When you clean out your closets, consider donating those gently loved items to Hope and Harbor. What may no longer be needed in your home could be exactly what a neighbor needs. 🫶

A huge thank you to Ryan with Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center - Crisis Response for donating shoes from the shoe drive they hosted! ❤️

These shoes will go directly to our neighbors who need them, and we are so grateful for the generosity behind this donation.

This is what community looks like. 💙 Our community continues to show up for their neighbors, and we are incredibly thankful for every person, organization, and business that helps make a difference.

The Next Step: More Than a Resource Center 💙

The Next Step is here to help meet people where they are—and provide practical support for the next step forward.

Some of the resources and services we provide include:

📦 Storage for personal belongings
📬 A mailing address to use for important correspondence and job applications
🥪 Daily lunch & snacks
👕 Clothing
🧺 Laundry access
🚿 Showers access
🛒 Grocery cards
⛽ Gas cards
🚌 Bus tokens
💇 Haircut vouchers
🧼 Basic hygiene supplies, including feminine hygiene products
🎂 Birthday cards—because everyone deserves to be remembered and celebrated!

These may seem like small things, but having access to basic necessities can make a big difference when someone is working toward stability.

Did You Know? Our Shelter Is Community-Powered?

Did you know Hope and Harbor’s overnight shelter is made possible through the generosity of local churches, volunteers, donors, and community partners?

Our rotating shelter model brings our community together to make sure people have a safe, warm place to sleep during the coldest months of the year.

We could not do this work alone.
It truly takes a community. 💙

🧴 DONATION NEED: SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER 🧴

Hope and Harbor is currently in need of travel-size and standard-size shampoo and conditioner for our guests.

These everyday essentials make a meaningful difference for our neighbors who may be experiencing homelessness or navigating a difficult season.

💙 Travel-size or full-size — we can use both!

If you’re able to donate, items can be dropped off at The Next Step, open daily from 12–5 PM.

💙 344 lives. Countless stories of hope.

In just 15½ months, The Next Step Community Resource Center has become a place where our neighbors can find support, dignity, and hope during difficult times.

Together, with the generosity of our community, we've been able to provide:
• 🏠 Assistance to 344 unique individuals and families
• 🍽️ 2,764 meals served
• 👕 1,813 articles of clothing distributed
• 👟 115 pairs of shoes provided
• 🧺 169 loads of laundry completed
• ⛽ 153 gas cards distributed
• 🚌 165 bus tokens provided
• ❤️ Nearly $40,000 in direct basic needs resources, including clothing, hygiene supplies, meals, and other essential items

Behind every number is a person—a parent trying to provide for their children, someone searching for employment, a neighbor working toward stable housing, or an individual simply needing to know they aren't alone.

None of this would be possible without our incredible volunteers, donors, community partners, churches, businesses, and supporters who believe that everyone deserves hope and a chance to take the next step.

Sometimes, the difference between hope and despair is knowing someone cares.

Every day at Hope & Harbor, we meet individuals and families who are doing everything they can to rebuild their lives. A job, a new community, or a fresh start doesn't always mean the path is easy. Sometimes, one unexpected setback can leave someone wondering where they'll sleep that night.

Today, we're sharing the words of a guest whose life was changed because our community chose to give. Their story is a reminder that your support is about so much more than shelter—it provides stability, dignity, and hope when it's needed most.
