Whether you’re looking to boost wildlife on your land, improve water quality, increase farm profitability, or integrate native plants into your operation, Monarch Joint Venture is here to help! The Monarch Joint Venture habitat team can assist with every step of the process—from site preparation and seed mix design to plant selection, planting, long term maintenance, and navigating funding opportunities to support your project. This free technical assistance is funded by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

They also have limited quantities of free Minnesota native pollinator seed mix available for growers in all locations (500-5,000 square foot packages), as well as a buffer enhancement program (funded by the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources) for landowners in eligible watersheds in the Lower Minnesota River Valley. Hear from Jamie Horton at tomorrow's monthly webinar!

Jamie is the Farm Bill Biologist with Pheasants Forever (PF), working in Aitkin and Carlton counties. She grew up in northeastern Illinois, very close to the Wisconsin border, on a 7-acre hobby farm. After her Bachelor’s program at the U of M – Twin Cities, Jamie spent a few years working on upland bird wildlife research projects all over the Midwest. She then went on to earn a Master’s in biology at Bemidji State University, studying Greater prairie-chickens.

Veronica works full time as a Soil Health & Outreach Specialist focusing on soil health practices, pollinator plantings, writing articles, updating the social media, battling with the website design, & outreach events throughout Aitkin County. She has been with the district for almost four years and has a degree in Natural Resource Management and Agronomy Crop Production from the University of MN Crookston.

Welcome to Kate Mudge, our North West Region Coordinator!

Kate has served as a regional coordinator with MN Women in Conservation since 2026, alongside her work as Co-Director of the Care Farming Network. Over the past 20+ years, her nonprofit career has focused on rural entrepreneurship, hunger relief, animal welfare, and community development.

She and her wife, Amy, live on a homestead farm in Otter Tail County, where they raise sheep, work on prairie restoration, and enjoy watching a family of beavers reshape the water flow between ponds on their property. When she’s not working, Kate can be found baking, walking her many dogs through the woods, metalsmithing, and swimming in nearby lakes.
