Welcome to our newest team member, Ginger Fride!

Ginger grew up in the driftless of southeastern Minnesota on a hobby farm fostering her lifelong love of horses, herons, rivers, plants, and mushrooms. Ginger earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and was awarded the Sylvia Bremer Award for Poetry in 2005. After graduation, Ginger delved into the world of food justice as a manager of the local food co-op, creating and nurturing relationships with food growers and food businesses and learning from the wisdom of the slow food movement. Ginger is a Minnesota Master Naturalist and has a background in hospitality, communications, and equity strategy. Ginger lives in Lake City, Minnesota on beautiful Lake Pepin with her son. In her free time, Ginger enjoys hiking, cooking, painting, reading, and writing.

Let’s Talk NRCS Local Working Groups

What are Local Working Groups (LWGS)?
A gathering where farmers and community members can share their thoughts and priorities for conservation with USDA NRCS and their county Soil and Water Conservation District.

Who can participate?
These groups should include farmers, private landowners, people representing natural resources and agriculture interests from soil, water, forestry and other areas that are familiar with agriculture and natural resources in the community.

Should I go?
Unless farmers that represent the kind of production and/or management system that you use participate in these local groups, the issues you face will not be represented nor will the resources to address them.

NRCS is hosting two upcoming producer roundtable events to gather producer feedback on conservation practice standards (CPSs). Practical, on-the-ground experience of producers is crucial to ensure these standards are effective, practical, and economically viable.

This is an informal opportunity for you to share your individual insights. Discussion topics may include new technologies and equipment NRCS should incorporate, how national standards are modified for local conditions, and how specific practices impact the bottom line. RSVP is required.
