Red Wing Area Women's Network

Red Wing Area Women's Network We meet from September through May on the second Wednesday of every month. There are no memberships or dues.

Since 1978 the Red Wing Area Women’s Network has created a welcoming space for women to learn, share and support one another-building confidence, connection and community along the way. Kenzi Reuter presented information about Hope and Harbor to Women’s Network. Not only does Hope and Harbor provide overnight shelter during the winter months, but this year they added Next Step, a daytime program. This day program is available to anyone in the community that needs help or a warm place to shelter from the cold and/or grab a hot lunch and is located in the basement of Christ Episcopal Church. Clothing, food and counselors are available to assist with rental leases, job applications, budgeting and other life activities.

In addition, Hope & Harbor administers The Community Care Fund (CCF) which is designed to provide short-term, one-time financial assistance to individuals and families facing a temporary crisis. CCF exists to help remove immediate barriers and stabilize people so they can take the next step toward long-term security and independence.

Kenzi also talked about her career journey and her dreams for the future of Hope & Harbor.

And to top off a great day, a delicious salad bar lunch from Pic Nicks was enjoyed by all!Thank you Kenzi for sharing this great information!

Congratulations to our 2026 Women’s Hall of Fame Inductees Catherine Johnson and Yanelis Sofia Jinete and Leola Ellis (posthumously). These women were nominated and selected by a group of their peers for outstanding contributions to the Red Wing community. Inductees are selected based on five different categories: their significant improvements/impacts to our local community; volunteering; going above and beyond in their daily work; civic club activities; and mentoring others. This year’s inductees were excellent examples of all of these categories.

A large crowd participated in this year’s luncheon at the St. James Hotel on March 11, 2026. Festivities ended with a picture of past Hall of Famers that were present at the event. Congratulations to Catherine, Yanelis and Leola and thank you for all you have done to make our community better!

She shared what it was like being a student athlete and how that helped guide her career and the various hats she wears on a daily basis. Thank you Maddy! Thanks also to everyone who came!

We enjoyed a delightful presentation from Jackie Augustin owner of Blumen Acres this month. Jackie shared her dream of being a flower farmer and gave great insight about the challenges and rewards of taking a hobby and turning it into a business…but even more than that, making it part of a community. She is expanding her business to include educational forums, pick your own events and events at her flower farm. She also discussed the delight and sense of pride she gets from having her entire family involved in the business. We put the cherry on top by giving away one of her beautiful bouquets as a door prize! Thank you Jackie for sharing your passion with us! For more information, follow Jackie Augustin, Blumen Acres.

Our 2025/2026 season kicked off yesterday with an amazing program! Johnny Johnson, Education Director at Prairie Island Indian Community, toured us through the Prairie Island Edwin Buck Jr. Memorial Buffalo Projecr. We heard about the development of the buffalo herd with the gift of Shooting Star, a six year old bull in 1992 from the Lakota Nation of South Dakota. Rather than making a community feast, they decided to develop a buffalo herd. The herd is currently about 250 head, with 50-70 calves born each year. Prairie Island is currently the only tribe in Minnesota raising buffalo.

It was fascinating to hear about growing up on Prairie Island and the history of its people theough Johnny’s personal stories. He discussed many childhood memories, customs and traditions and many of the challenges that face tribal members. He also discussed the recent developments at Prairie Island including the hotel, Marina, and new cannibis operations. At the end of the program we enjoyed a delicious lunch from Stoneware Cafe and overlooked the beautiful Marina.
